Integrated Parental Control

@emiliano-paladini You should go with an extension, then.
Parental control work almost as the adlblocker.
A list made from devs/users which block specific contents.
It's the main reason is not simple to integrate in a browser, it'd slowdown the browser development.
Just choose an extension which allows what type of sites you should lock without locking everything which is not "politically correct".
Remember kids will know you locked something at the first research and they'll use another machine for the "mission" if they want
I agree that internet was, is - and will be an "horrible place" but it is almost everywhere, so locking at home is "almost useless".
Just... don't abuse locking (never had parental lock on tv)
Silly example: a total security could block a lot of wikipedia/medical pages if they show how we are anatomically made
CIAO! -
@emiliano-paladini Parental controls on TVs are known to be highly ineffective. More often than not they lock out the parents, instead of their more tech-savvy kids. For effective censorship send your kids to China -- they have the know how, ways and means.

As father, I agree with you. But you know that many parents don't follow their kids as they should.
The question is: can we do something for the kids with distracted parents?Yes. Educate the parents. Tell them about the importance of competent kids. Which is easier done than said, as most kids are eager to learn about the internet. Kids want to learn, at least as long as the have an interest in the topic.
I'm against the censorship and I'll always be. But, in my opinion, parental control is quite different, it's protection behaviour.
No. You know the saying about the fisher? Give a man a fish and feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.
In my opinion it's much more important to teach kids how to make do on the internet. And teach them how to interpret the things they see and read.
And kids are much more resilient towards unexpected and - in the opinion of the parents - dangerous content. Tell your kids about sex and why the way people doing it on the internet isn't real. Tell them about violence and how it's not good, and perhaps why many people on the internet find it so appealing.
Yes, you're right, but in my opinion, the browser is the first interface the kids discover and, maybe, the most dangerous.
How is this dangerous?
If they know about dangers, they can be aware and respectful towards it - not post personal images, not give personal details...
We have even television with integrated parental control, why browser not?
Because browsers are made by people who usually understand more about the internet that people who build TVs. And as a parent, I'd like to decide myself if my kids can watch a movie or a documentary, totally ignoring what some society-elected committee sees fit to suggest.
Thank you all, for sharing with me your opinions
Thanks for listening and kudos for at least showing you care about your children. I'd just like if you did it in another way

Ok guys, I give up!
Your reasoning are better than mine. I'm just a scared new father that would protect their children from anything.
I'm getting old... (romantic piano melody in background)PS This chat was precious for me. Now I can see in different way this matter. And no, I won't send my children to China!
Have a nice day guys!

I do not see it necessary, since any search engine has search filters to block certain pages not suitable for children

Hello,
Even out of parental control context, blocking certain web pages may be useful. Example : there are some sites that have a domain name slightly different than the one you want to access, and when you do a typo in your adress, you go to the wrong one. It may be totally safe, it may be porn, it may open thousands of popups asking you anything (for sure in the end, dowloadign virus or entering your credit card code).
So for this, I support this feature request too -
Parental Control will not be added by Vivaldi devs. The dev team is small and can not invest time. It would be too much work to maintain the block list for pages and domains.
You can use Router filter settings, Internet Security programs and special DNS setting to block from inappropriate content.

@doctorg In my opinion, it would be helpful to tag this thread and many others as WILL NOT DO if there is no realistic chance of those features being added.
Maybe move them to the DONE category, or create a new one that is archived to save any more pointless debate.

@pesala A
won't do
would be the best choice as adone
tag would be a lie and will bring to another similar request. Also, there is nothing bad on keeping it open with the why it will almost never happen and how to circumvent the lack of this. -
