I created a bug report to include this option into Vivaldi Settings or Vivaldi flags - VB-90618 🀞

@guigirl Actually it is, you just had to dig deeper πŸ˜‰

the MMB autoscroll "feature" exists for quite some time, it just didn't work for Linux, nice that if finally works πŸ‘ .

Chrome "features" are separately listed here: https://niek.github.io/chrome-features/ πŸ˜‰

          /edit: wrong section 🀭 :

            😲

So, from your source [new info for me]:
            --enable-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll

vs my recently altered launcher [extract]:
            --enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll

I am drafting this via Snappie atm, so after posting i shall relaunch V using "your" way rather than "my new" way, to test your bold claim... 😜

              It does NOT work. πŸ›‘

We still need to use this recently-revealed new way:
              --enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll

@npro Right, so now we can see that "your" way devolves in fact to being identical to the "new" way which herein & in the Russian thread got some of us very excited & happy in recent days.

Now if only i could also find these still-strangely-hidden features, i'd be able to return to Snappie as default instead of my Nightly:

                  • --enable-blink-features=ProperTreeStyleTabs
                  • --enable-blink-features=StopBreakingMyBloodyPOSTSearchesFfs!

Yes! And we're still waiting for a built-in setting in Vivaldi.

So glad I found this thread. The lack of this feature is one of the most frustrating things for me personally when using Linux as a desktop OS.

Adding --enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll as a launch parameter enabled this feature for me and now I scroll pages as efficiently as I can on Windows. I hope the developers add this option into the settings menu soon!

Yes, we were struggling without this option for years. I edited the first post with this command so new users would know that there is a workaround right away without reading tho whole thread.

@bowow Brave added this to brave://flags as an experimental option. I would love for that to happen with Vivaldi as I don't like or use Brave, beyond testing.

Vivaldi team, we should hurry to add this option to the settings ASAP!!! In order to be the first chromium browser that supports Middle-click Scrolling for Linux! ⏰ ⚑ ⚑

@lfisk No doubt and I use it. Which is why I feel it should be at least in the Experimental flags as well, since essentially that is what is doing.

One thing I notice with the command line method is when I open PWAs it gives me a warning every launch.

Now that doesn't really bother me too much, just a minor annoyance. However, I have a lot of people I have helped move over to Linux, and it always scares them.

It certainly does the trick for now, just feel it should be in the settings.

Indeed, that I would not doubt. First thing I did when I found out Brave had that setting was check the flags for Vivaldi. Obviously not in Chromium either.

whilst i can't imagine why anyone using vivaldi in linux would not activate mmb as via the --enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll command string [once they have read this thread ofc, otherwise... how could they know?], coming soon for users of kde plasma per the link above, is going to be plasma-native mmb as:

                                            This week in KDE: autoscrolling

Nate Automation & Systematization, This Week in KDE July 5, 2024 4 Minutes
                                            New Features

You can now turn on the β€œautoscrolling” feature of the Libinput driver, which lets you scroll on any scrollable view by holding down the middle button of your mouse and moving the whole mouse (Evgeniy Chesnokov, Plasma 6.2.0. Link)

Look, you've got it all wrong! You don't need to follow me. You don't need to follow anybody! You've got to think for yourselves! You're all individuals!
