Floating sidebar panels
-
@g3nbas Yes, true. There is lot of Feature Request without "In Progress" tag, but the V Team definitely want this. We only must wait and vote for this Feature as much as possible to start developing and speed up a process.
-
Any news on this? This or a dark bookmarks drop down menu are the last thing I would need to make Vivaldi my primary browser.
-
@neophyte Some news on it. Watch developments. You might even hold your breath without passing out. But my lips are sealed.
-
@g3nbas after yesterday Snapshot, there is already a "In-Progress" tag
-
This has been implemented in the latest Snapshot, albeit in a different way to that requested.
- A checkbox in settings, panels enables floating panels
- When that is enabled, another checkbox allows the panel to close automatically on moving the mouse away onto the page. There is no need to click on the page.
The option is only useful if the panel toolbar is displayed. Panels should open automatically on mouseover of their icon.

@pesala
It's a good start, but definitely needs a few small improvements. -
@pesala Good, but can be better.
They can actually implant an invisible panel toggler with 5px width for mouseover to reveal the panel, no need to waste 32px vertical space for panel toolbar.
-
I never could get it to auto-expand, but auto-hide seemed to work.
Also, is there a way to make bookmark folders collapse again when the panel auto-hides? If not it basically kills one of the main advantages of using the side panel if you have a lot of items in various folders.

Is this what you are asking for? https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/floating-panels-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1-16-1226-3/
-
@para-noid
Me? Almost. But it should be a local option instead of being global. -

+1
-
@nekomajin I think the option would be great for specific panels.. just like to separate width selector
-
In my opinion this is not "Done".
Clicking "Show Panel" still visibly moves the page, just a bit less than before... -
@wea0 Did you activate the "Floating Panel"? This is what this request was about.
-
@wea0 That depends on whether you have the Panel Toolbar open or not. Enabling or disabling any toolbar may affect the page layout, c.f. the Bookmarks Bar or Find in Page toolbar.
