There are two adjustments I would like to make to the search bar:

Current behavior: When the search bar field is empty, it displays a grayed-out indication of the currently active search engine, for example: "Search Wikipedia" (where "Wikipedia" is the contents of the description field in the edit dialog for that search engine). When the field has a term in it, however, the indicator is not present.
Desired option: I would like to see the grayed-out text all the time, at least in an abbreviated form, so I know what search engine will be engaged if I enter a new term. One idea might be to have it display the nickname for that engine at the right end of the field.

Current behavior: The search bar seems to maintain its drop-down list in the original order in which the engines were added, except for placing the most recently used engine at the top of the list.
Desired option: I would like to be able to sort the list, either alphabetically or manually.

Does anyone know if these options can be implemented in the current version? If not, do they seem like reasonable feature requests? Thanks in advance for any comments or guidance.

      @ehm Vote for

@gregor said in Feature requests for Vivaldi 1.14:

The icon of the current search engine in the search bar.

The sort order of search engines is now not changed to bring the most recently used to the top.

      Specs: AMD A10-6800K, 8 Gb on Win 10 64-bit • Snapshot 1.14.1042.3 (64-bit)

Vote for this request to change the sort engine order:

@gregor said in Feature requests for Vivaldi 1.14:

Possibility of changing the search engine order.

Currently, it can only be done by manually deleting and adding search engines in Settings, Search.

@ehm See Gwen's post on how to make Feature Requests.

How to make a feature request for Vivaldi

If you think your problem can be solved by a missing feature, please add as single request at https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/22411/feature-requests-for-vivaldi-1-14/ by hitting the green Reply button at the bottom of the page — not the blue reply link below each post.

      • Please search the Feature Requests thread (replacing topic with your topic) first and upvote it if it exists.
      • Add one line in bold as a short title for the feature and 2-3 lines to describe the wanted feature.
      • post only one feature request in one post, not more.
      • Do not discuss features, bugs, or support issues in the thread.
      • If you need to, please open a new thread in the other Vivaldi forums.
      • If you want to ask or tell users something, please contact them by chat via their forum profile.

@pesala Hi, thanks. I didn't mean my post here to be a feature request. Wanted to check first to see if the functionality were already somehow possible before I made any request. But those @Gregor requests cover what I was looking for, so I'm assuming I should not add any new request.

If you like Gregor's request, just vote for it. If you want something different, post a new reply to the thread, using the green Reply button.

@pesala Thanks. I upvoted both requests at your suggestion when you alerted me to them. I also replied to one of them with an optional alternate version of his suggestion.
