Sync is here, help us test it – Vivaldi browser Snapshot 1.14.1030.3

If possible would be nice if a new SS be issued for over the weekend use no matter how small and what is corrected. My views...thanks.

@civury Looks like a bug.
If I assign Ctrl Pause/Break, then try to assign Ctrl ScrllLock I get a message saying that Ctrl Break is already assigned, so it is Ctrl+Scroll Lock that is sending the wrong scan codes.

Hi,
I tried reading all the sync-related postings; nevertheless I'm quite sure I don't remember all issues, so sorry if this comes out as double...
Updated my Mac Vivaldi to latest snapshot 1.14.1030.3 and set up full sync with separate password. It took 2-3 minutes and reported success.
Did a clean install of the same Vivaldi version on the macbook and setup sync immediately.
Sorry to say that my expectations might have been too high - I was more or less expecting a full sync e.g. of all settings - didn't happen. Especially UI/design/search/search engine/"general" setting don't sync at all (by design?). Passwords, cookies and extensions did sync (in general). Is it possible to sync extension settings also (e.g. whitelists/blacklists for ad filter / js block extensions)? I transferred those manually - but this means that they will not stay in sync, sadly.
All in all - still a way to go, but WAAAAAY ahead of all those other browsers. Job well done! (but keep at it
)

@quhno Well, yes obviously reproducibility is important if others are to, y'know, reproduce some random user's V malfunction. Pls don't think i don't understand that. However what is one to do if the malfunction is not reproducible? Just bite one's tongue?
When it occurred to me at the time of my post, i simply, literally, closed a single tab. My pic shows that, & what happened. But as i also said, that misbehaviour had not occurred for a very very long time... & furthermore it has not recurred since my post. Hence i have not raised a bug report, as it's kinda duh obvious to me that without reproducibility such a report would be utterly useless.
However, it did happen. Forgive me if advising others of that event is wrong.

sure, what the hell is this (take a look at the screenshot in the link i provide)?
i have a very modern computer with plenty of ram, nice video card, win 7 64bit with all the latest updates, no problems elsewhere with other software whatsoever.
this problem happens all the time lately, only with Vivaldi, I have to open a new Vivaldi window in order to be able to close (gently) the browser, the window in the background remains unusable.

@spytrdr: Vivaldi 1.13.1008.34 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
-
@spytrdr Any extensions being used? There are zero problems here. The graphic you are showing here indicates a graphics card or driver conflict.
-
@ayespy: ghostery only
-
@spytrdr OK. So it's your graphics card or the drivers. All you can do is turn hardware acceleration for Vivaldi on or off, or update your drivers. Nothing like you are showing there shows up on any of the ten instances of Vivaldi on my four main testing systems, but I have seen it before (with Opera as it happens, not Vivaldi) with graphics card incompatibility. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of cards and thousands of driver versions and the Chromium (the engine Vivaldi uses to display the web) solution for this has been lately instead of trying to code to work with every card, to rather "blacklist" (and not support) any card that doesn't work with the Chromium code.

Well, without the Sopranos (=tester team), the Two Syncers (Hlini and Julien) and Masters of the Server Dungeons you would not have got it so fast.
That's why I've written "et al."
So kudos to the Sopranos, the Masters of the Server Dungeons and everybody else involved, too.

@morg42:
From the introducing notes above.Known issues
The synchronization of Settings is not complete yet. Only a subset of Settings are covered at the moment. I am hoping to get this improved soon -
@freeraider Second possibilty: After typing the address, select all with Ctrl-A, copy it with Ctrl-C and paste it with Shift-Crtl-V (but don't miss the SHIFT). THEN it also works with autocomplete disabled.

OMG! I live to see this, now definitly one browser in the world, the best! Congratulations Vivaldi Team!

Great news ... downloading right now

when it is ready
There's no other possibility. If a fix is not ready there is nothing to implement.
-
@gwen-dragon Mine idea was to have an optional background process which keep the UI generated in memory to help rigs with less performance to have smooth experience. But this won't help people with less memory, I fear.

Is the sync server down atm?
Just got the snapshot, but I can't login:
-
wtf. sync and you still didnt manage to make vivaldi portable!?
unbelievable. -
@gwen-dragon oh, that explains it, I thought I messed it up by restarting too fast....
-
@gwen-dragon Same problem here in Spain
