Tab preview in task bar
-
I wonder if it is possible to get a preview of all opened tabs when hovering Vivaldi at the task bar?!
Right now I only get a preview of one open tab. I like this behavior when using Vivaldi (or any browser) at home, but at work (where I started using Vivaldi short time ago) it would be a very handy feature; at least for my personal workflow. In fact it is the one feature which makes not change away from Firefox completely.
For the moment I'd be happy to have a extension which adds that feature to Vivaldi, but it should become a standard feature of Vivaldi in the future I'd suggest.
Does anyone know a extension for now? I didn't find any...

There are a quite a few features that come pretty close to what you want to have:
1): Permant thumbnail for all Tabs
- Go to "Settings --> Tabs"
- Scroll to the Section "Tab Display"
- Tick the checkbox for "Show Tab Thumbnails"
- --> Done
2): Switch it on and off via a keyboard shortcut
- Go to "Settings --> Keyboard"
- Scroll to the section "Tab" and open it
- Assign a shortcut for the action "Tab Thumbnail"
- --> Done
3): Activate / deactivate via Quick command
- Press "F2"
- Enter in the quick command menu "thumb"
- Select command "Tab Thumbnails" and press enter to activate or to deactivate
- --> Done
4): Switch it on and off via a mouse gesture
- Go to "Settings --> Mouse"
- Hit the + below the Gesture Mapping window to ad a new gesture
- Select "Tab Thumbnails" from the list
- Click "Next"
- Paint the gesture you want to assign on the white canvas while holding down the left mouse button
(only horizontal and vertical moves are allowed - max 5 strokes) - Click "Save Gesture"
- --> Done
5): Use Tab Cycler
- Go to "Settings --> Tabs"
- Scroll to the section "Tab Features"
- Tick the checkbox "Show Tab Cycler"
- Leave the settings than press "Ctrl + Tab"
- Hold "Ctrl" and repeat pressing "Tab" to switch through them via keyboard
- Or hold both keys pressed and select a tab via left mouseclick
Hope this helps

@vivaldinio I don't think that there is any extension capable of creating such feature since it would require access to some system files or the browser's core files. Besides, the extensions are based on JS and what you're asking for is something that most certainly cannot be achieved with JS. Not to mention that even if such extension existed, it wouldn't be cross-platform as it would work on Windows only (I believe).
To achieve this Vivaldi would have to "tell" the OS to detect each tab as a separate window, but display them all in one browser's window. The only way to achieve this would be to open each tab in a separate window, but I think that it might be too inconvenient for everyday use...
On the other hand, I wonder why Microsoft didn't implement this feature in Edge since it was in IE. I never liked it anyway, so I'm not really bothered by the lack of it, but if you really miss it, you can always post a request for such feature here. You can also take a look at requests made by other people and vote for them if you'd like to see those features in future releases of Vivaldi.
Just keep in mind that Vivaldi developers are a considerably small team (compared to other companies behind other browsers) and they have plenty of work to do, like fixing bugs, keeping up with Chromium updates, working on new features, maintaining their web services etc. So if such feature ever makes it to Vivaldi, it might take some time...

Thanks for both of your kind replies!
@zaibon: I knew all the workarounds, but non of them does the trick for me in my "at work workflow". I kind of need the tab previews when coming back to my browser from other applications.
@pafflick: Thanks for your explanations! I was afraid an extension for that kind of feature would be (nearly) impossible. As I said: I don't really need (nor like) the questioned feature for my private browser use either, so I share your opinion saying "I never liked it anyway". Plus: I also would say there are many other features more important than this one, like having a master password for logins, personal data sync and of course bringing Vivaldi to Android
But as I'm very new to Vivaldi (even though reading about it since it's first public release) I thought it would be good to ask, because there are often kind of hidden features in other browsers which can be missed easily.
Again: thanks for taking the time responding to my request!

Damn I misinterpreted this question - basically I somehow skipped that you said "taskbar" -.-'
I thought that you meant hovering above a single tab. But you meant the Vivaldi icon in the taskbar, right?
This would be a really nice feature but I fear that this is indeed a hard piece of work to implement. -
