@Catweazle Everyone has their own favorite player, right? It depends a lot on how you want to use it. Do I need lots of colorful album images? Do I want to be able to edit tags? Or synchronize with Android?
In any case, MediaMonkey is probably the program with the most editing options, with a very appealing interface and - my favorite program. It's definitely worth checking out
-
@Dancer18, not because Album images (SMplayer shows it only if you load an YT video audio files are in a miniplayer.

Version 4.67 ( - CURRENT VERSION - )
(Release date: 2024-04-05)You need at least one of:
-
Essential
Portmaster to control the connections of all apps, who sends or receives data and eventually block this traffic
in Windows Hellzerg Optimizer, to remove bad Windows habits, unnecessary telemetries and services, tweak the system to turn Windows into a fast, obedient and private OS.Nice to have
Rainmeter, to customize the UI and add practical widgets to monitor the system, calendars, clocks, animations, etc.. Tons of skins in eg.Deviantart or easy to create a own one. n short, do to Windows the same as Vivaldi does with the browser. -
Old but gold
Cherrytree, a hierarchical note taking application, featuring rich text and syntax highlighting, storing data in either a single file (xml or sqlite) or multiple files and directories. (FOSS, Linux, Win, Mac)
-
CCleaner - You need to check the settings very carefully before use.
It is also worth remembering the other products of this company: https://www.ccleaner.com/downloadTo customize the UI, all I need is my own wallpaper
JPEGCrops is a Windows program, created for preparation of a batch of images for printing. It provides lossless cropping

@Ryszard, well, CCleaner isn't really needed in W10/11 anymore, apart has privacy issues, because send user datas. W10/11 itself has same functionalities as CCleaner to free the HD automaticly from junkfiles.
CCleaner apart is not free soft, it load by default at startup and slow down the system. In W7 I used instead BleachBit, which is FOSS, to clean the system, but in W10 I've enough with the inbuild Storage Sensor.- Click the Start menu and type Settings. Click on Settings.
- Click on System and then Storage in the left navigation pane.
- Turn on the Storage Sense feature if it isn't yet by default
- There you can set the intervall when it should clean the junk from your HD, if you want daily, or you can also execute the cleaner by hand. No need of third party apps, Windows do the same and way more secure and easy.
I like nice Wallpapers and sometimes I create own ones with Mandelbulb 3D. or I download them from Pixabay or also recently from Wallpaper.fyi, which create automaticly every hour new Wallpapers in HD with AI

In W7 I used instead BleachBit, which is FOSS, to clean the system, but in W10 I've enough with the inbuild Storage Sensor.I prefer CCleaner because you can add custom files/folders to delete, and you can do everything using the keyboard.
I download the Portable build from https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds
The only files you need are either CCleaner.exe or CCleaner64.exe for cleaning, ccleaner.ini for your settings, and the portable.dat file.
I have the Options\Privacy settings for "Improvements" and "Offers" disabled.
I also created an Outbound Rule for the Firewall to block CCleaner. -

CCleaner apart is not free soft, it load by default at startup and slow down the system. That's why I wrote - you need to check the settings very carefully.
Me it does not start with system start
That's the way it is with these programs - if someone has mastered how to use them then they are reluctant to change to another.
Ccleaner calls itself "free for home use" but charges a fee for use - application usage data. I knowingly incur this fee.I download them from Pixabay or also recently from Wallpaper.fyi, which create automaticly every hour new Wallpapers in HD with AI
To find exactly the wallpaper I need on pixabay I would have to add it there first
And www.wallpapers.fyi doesn't work - https://static.tryleap.ai/image-gen-408fb819-97a4-49ec-9e72-fc84926a840a/generated_images/0.png:<Error> <Code>AllAccessDisabled</Code> <Message>All access to this object has been disabled</Message> <RequestId>07D3YR7DF44T9RFY</RequestId> <HostId>afWCFqmOKfkjsmhLBD97t//Lc+uc2oEM4oH2jSWty04IAevSctgyVHsNgc9tzginy6hz6GDRmAA6xaL65l7ywg==</HostId> </Error>

@Ryszard, Wallpaper.fyi works perfect for me (imagelist need some seconds to appear)
Screenshots made in this moment
You need an account when youself want to create an image with Leap, but the images generated from Wallpaper.fyi are freely downloadable and don't have any restrictions or copyright. You can use these for what you want.

Platform | WIN
Ambit | System Energy
Name | Auto Power OptionsA small app to Auto Switch between Power plans
--
On my scenario is used to keep the system cool when just watching media or launching but the computer is still running some tasks.
Create a specific Energy Plan with desired capabilities on CPU
Mostly lowestMonitor App | Core Temp
This case is I5 2410M | 2.9GHz [Battery is KO]
Select the settings to Auto switch to this saver plan
Click above
It keeps the systems really fresh when we watching media 57ΒΊ/60ΒΊ and lower on other I5 5300U | 3GHz, 42ΒΊ +/-
- Energy saver
- No Fan noise
It reverts to previous energy plan when Mouse o Keyboard is used, mostly meaning system load is increased so it's very comfortable
I couldn't achieve this editing a Power Plan to get top performance and lowest energy consumption -

PDF-XChange Editor
Build 10.3.0.386 (Released 19th April 2024)
This powerful PDF editor is free to use, but with a reduced feature set. The free features are more than enough for the average user. I have used it instead of Acrobat Reader for years now. It is highly customisable, and has features like Read Aloud Selected Text. This is far more useful than the built-in accessibility tools for Windows.
-
@Pesala Requires a wine environment, there is no pure Linux version. It's a bit of a shame!

@Aaron, the problem is that there isn't any good dedicated PDF editor on Linux like PDF-XChange (which apart is Freemium Proprietary soft). But you can edit PDF files without problems with Libre Office Draw.
