Is it possible to open automatically torrent files?

I really don't know what's the problem, I dl torrents every each day and using open, which after downloading the torrent in my default download dir, cause utorrent to pop up and the download get started. I just have to clean the .torrent files when I'm done. Is this really so hard?

It's not that hard, but there are some people who like things getting done easier.

P.S. Not everyone use torrent clients on PC, many users have modern routers and run torrent clients on routers, so monitoring local dirs in PC doesn't work.

Still no solution to this? Vivaldi seems to have a great philosophy - to implement settings and functions and let the users decide how deep they want to go into customizing their experience. With that mindset, I would think automatically open certain file formats would be a given and that the users would be presented with the opportunity to do so for .torrents too.

This is the kind of thing that forces people to return to Firefox, not being able to execute simple functions. This is still something you see users request everywhere on forums and should definitely be implemented, even if the setting is somewhat hidden to boost security.

I don't think so. This is so easy to do — it takes only a couple of extra clicks. I never used torrents before, but I just tested the Torrent for LibreOffice.

I downloaded the info file using Vivaldi
I double-clicked the downloaded file in the download panel
A dialogue opened in Opera 12.17 (my only torrent enabled client) asking me if I wished to continue.

This is hardly a deal-breaker. I added the request for MIME type support in feature requests for Vivaldi 1.5, but we may need to wait a while yet since this is so easy to work around.

Not that many users download torrents
Those who do may well have a preferred application designed for that task
It takes only a double-click to open a torrent in your associated application from Vivaldi's download panel.

Yes, it is, but... You can also buy a car with manually operated windows - it virtually takes no extra clicks (since you would need to press open/close button on automated windows anyways). You can also buy a TV without remote - it also doesn't require any extra clicks (you still need to make one click on remote or TV itself anyways). It's all about convenience, comfort and usability...

There is "nexus mods" client he did something magic and when i click on mod file link, it opens the client without any save dialog!

I have no idea if anyone is currently working on it, but probably not as there are a thousand things that are more important than this.

My latest bug report number was VB-33069, so even allowing for many duplicates, and many fixed bugs, there must be at least 5,000 unfixed bugs in the queue, and this one is not a bug, but a feature request.

There is no need Vivaldi to implement this feature when torrent clients already have this feature.
In qBittorrent, for example, go to Tools>>Options>>Downloads and under "Automatically Add Torrents from" you want to specify your Downloads folder for example and that way when you download torrent file it will automatically open the torrent and start downloading.

It's a very lame solution in which you need to keep running a torrent client and you still have to choose the exact folder to save torrent files from the browser.

I don't have to keep utorrent active, when I open a .torrent from Vivaldi it gets started by windows, it's how file associations work. All I have to do afterward is to delete the .torrent files from download directory when I don't need them anymore.

@nicklaich It is not a lame solution at all. All downloads are saved in the Downloads folder anyway by default. Until Vivaldi gets direct support for Torrents it is the only solution. Opera 12.17 has built-in Torrent support, but a lot of users who used Torrents regularly still preferred to use a dedicated Torrent client, which offered much more control than Opera.

Your topic is a bit old, so i think Devs should look at this point too! I can't open some files with that option too.

I think that people who don't need this feature just don't open files from Internet too much. Every time when I want to open a torrent file, I have to put it to my Downloads dir, open and then manually delete - why can't I do just a single click like it works in Firefox or like it was in old good Opera? Please don't suggest to keep torrent client running and have its capture function enabled, it is not enough flexible. I completely agree with toxpal - yes, you can use unhandy software, you can do a lot of repeating actions, but it is a bad design if people have to do all these extra clicks or movements for every day actions. There are really many people who need this, and such a request has a 3-year history, unfortunately without luck. Sad.

Vote for the existing feature request. Torrents Download Support, it currently has only 1 upvote.

MIME Type Support on the other hand, currently has 48 upvotes.

I don't think you need to keep your Torrent client running if MIME types are supported. Just double-click a download to open it, download the file, then close the client.

I don't need internal torrent client, I prefer separate tool for keeping it running in the background, but I've added a vote for MIME types:)
