@Raoh1990 red when off would be annoying for me, but that's just my 2 cents.. better grey (and hollow)

I haven't followed the whole thread so apologies if this has been asked already..

is the functionality we have today for Proton VPN in Vivaldi (for free) a forever thing? or is it something like a trial that will eventually stop working after a year or 2?

What's present in Vivaldi now is only a button that, when clicked, installs the Proton Extension for you. Proton offers a number of free servers, with limitations; this is a not a special Vivaldi-arranged thing, it being free. Those servers are always free if you use the browser or use proton another way.

@dalinar yeah, that could work, too! GREEN when on and GREY when off sounds cool.

@ThePfromtheO what privacy if you adding another web servicing for your information between your privacy? They never sell or leaked your account information (even with share statistic button on by default)? it's just a buisness why are you believe what it's something good to you with another intermediary? If you want privacy rent own server and start own vpn, but it's also not 100% security.

Could you not install extensions without my permission? That would be great.

@Zalex108 That is not the point. I just wanted to show that clicking the button installed and enabled the VPN extension. After clicking that button, users have to take positive steps to disable or remove the extension, which is not a good default policy.

I suggest removing the button, and doing everything in Settings, Privacy and Security. Install, Enable, Disable, and uninstall.

Have to actually agree, but give dropdown options. I see not wanting something the second you click on it it installs. It's a HUGE reason I left WindBLOWS in the dust long ago. Click the button and get a dropdown asking:

                Install
                Install And Enable
                Remove

Now as for making this a surprise by bypassing beta testing it in Snapshot not the brightest idea. Could of saved so many headaches.

💡The vpn button should have a tooltip "Install Proton VPN" to make clear for users what happens.
Then they will not get a unwanted feature added if they do not click.

I'm happy the way it is done, I wouldn't have noticed it it wasn't on my toolbar.

If I didn't want it, I would just have removed it. But I like it so I'm keeping it.

that said, I had assume it was something built into vivladi, I didn't even realize it was an extension. I just thought it was a new feature. I mean where I first saw it.

And I'm checking it out in its pristine state on one of the profiles I haven't use the VPN on yet, and the tooltip just says "Proton VPN". There's no way I would have been able to have known that nothing was yet installed until you click it .. not that I personally care, just pointing that out

@DoctorG not on my profiles. maybe I have an older version, I don't know . I have 7.3.3635.4 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

tooltip just says "Proton VPN" even if i have never clicked the button yet, I have multiple profiles so I mean on a profile that I have never used Proton VPN on. It also has a big tab graphic open talking about Proton VPN when you open the profile.

@DoctorG well, I wouldn't say "bad" but ambiguous. Now that I know the intent behind what you wrote I can read it the way you intended, not the default way I read it as "it's supposed to be there" ("should" is causing the ambiguity)

What I've just seen few hours ago, is that leaving the icon on the toolbar, without previously logging in to the VPN, the "can not Connect" message appears when you restart.

The setting to not auto connect is not reachable.

The only option seems to remove the toolbar icon.

                              --

I guess V Team expects users to click and see what's that New Feature.

This seems better to catch the attention by default in the first & next launch.

Maybe a short explanation and an option to choose whether test it or not when click it, instead of install the extension right away would be good too.

If the option is just in the settings, many people will ask about a Vivaldi VPN, and where to find it.

                              🙄

@dalinar You speak about the VPN, right?
... But if you don't pay, you can only let it auto-connect you, not choose the server on your own. And that is not always the best idea. For example, today, if I click "Connect", it connects me to the server in my country, which is stupid, you understand. If I had upgraded my account, I would have been able to choose what server I wanted. The extension is currently almost unusable for me until it chooses another server based on its speed.
Plus, there are features you can't access without upgrading your plan:
                                      6fd82e2d-ed10-4e4d-a0e0-752e28a067f3-image.png
I especially consider the "Split Tunelling" feature an amazing one, and this is also what might convince others to pay for it.

@dalinar Yesterday, I was connected to Amsterdam, but now, as I told you, I have the server in my country. So I can't hide my IP. I would use the VPN app, but you can't use more than one device at the same time. And my mobile needs the VPN more than my PC, in my opinion.
