Translate Could Be Better
-
- Improve the translate functionality to include a "back translate" panel.
Sometimes a translation doesn't really come out the way you would want. Having an immediate 2verification" would enable more accurate translations.
-
having to specify to-from languages every time you use the translator is the best way to discourage use
-
when I "flip" my languages...have the translator automatically highlight what ever is in the source box...that way when I begin typing in the "from" box, the former text is quickly and efficiently disposed of.
I am enjoying Vivaldi web browser...let's work together to make it better and even more useful!

@PedroVision What I don't like is that the translating feature is very limited: it has not enough languages, like Romanian, for example. How does that help me when I don't fully comprehend something on a website written in US English if I can't translate it into my language? It's stupid to translate it in UK English, for example...
-
@ThePfromtheO Romanian is one option. Is this close to being correct, or is it the wrong language?
- Ceea ce nu-mi place este că caracteristica de traducere este foarte limitată: nu are suficiente limbi, precum româna, de exemplu. Cum mă ajută asta când nu înțeleg pe deplin ceva de pe un site scris în engleză americană dacă nu îl pot traduce în limba mea? Este o prostie să-l traduci în engleza britanică, de exemplu...

The abysmal quality of the Russian translation is one of the reasons I stopped using Vivaldi. If on a personal computer this problem can still be solved with the help of extensions, the mobile version is completely unsuitable for frequent use of the built-in translator, which quickly begins to spoil the text and produce some abracadabra.
-
@Pesala Yeah, that's correct! Only one grammar mistake, but alright. I'm so stupid! I didn't observe the Romanian option before. Thank you! I think I would have never found out that without you reply!
Thanks! -
@Tsvetkov1964 Yes, I'm disappointed with the fact the Vivaldi Android doesn't support extensions. I didn't expect that from the so-known "most customizable browser in the world". I hope they'll understand that this is an important feature (other websites like Firefox or Kiwi already did that). Extensions are very useful everywhere and anytime.

@ThePfromtheO
Hi, one of the most voted feature request in the forum but the Vivaldi team tagged it as WILL NOT DO.
Read here why:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/31078/support-extensionsCheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin Sorry, but I didn't understand... So they don't want to add this feature since Chroumium doesn't easily support that? Or it would be too hard?
-
@ThePfromtheO
The Vivaldi team would need to fork the Chromium source code to implement it.
This would cause a huge workload to get everything working if Chromium gets updated.
Microsoft and other browser companies can do this but even Chrom doesn't support it.
Kivi browser is completely outdated because the developers cannot keep up with the development speed of Chromium.
If the Chromium developers implement it Vivaldi would get it automatically but this would not happen anytime soon, I fear. -
@mib2berlin Shame!
I see I'm forced to use Firefox on Android. It's a shame! Good browser this Vivaldi...
-
@ThePfromtheO
Hm, I don`t need extensions, the translator gets better with every release.
You can check the snapshot (Beta), it is independent to your stable install or come back if Vivaldi goes 7.1. -
@mib2berlin I didn't think of translation only. There are many useful extensions in the Chrome Web Store.
...Do you mean that you can use extensions in the Snapshot? -

No, not possible.
I meant I use 2-3 extensions on the desktop just for laziness and I am fine without extensions on Android.
I know some users use 20 or more, then Firefox is maybe the only one.
Edge support 5 extensions at moment and it is experimental.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin I think 5 are enough. But Edge loves tracking you!

If you search for privacy stay at Vivaldi, Firefox is not was it was Years ago.
Anyway, I use many browsers at least for testing.Have a nice day, mib
