I just got a dead bird about 3 hrs after disabling PIP for webpages. Stopped in the middle of a youtube video and after a few minutes threw the dead bird.
Disabling PIP does not seem to be a solurion.

The actual report VB-109766 is marked as resolved/Upstream.
This means it is a bug in Chromium and cant be fixed by the Vivaldi developers.
I fear we cant do anything at moment.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration for some time in Settings > Webpages.
The render engine could crash the tab, maybe a combination of Vivaldi/Chromium and your GPU/driver. -
I did disable hardware acceleration. No dead birds for two days.

Just got a dead bird on youtube again. I was into 3rd days w/o one. That is significantly longer between dead birds though. I guess disabling hardware acceleration is not the silver bullet I thought it was going to be.
If the problem is upstream in chromium, would not Brave browser also get the same problem since it has same chromium root? I have been running brave browser simultaneously for a couple of days and not had a dead bird ever.
In response to a request: I am running openSUSE leap 15.6 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. I am using proprietary nvidia drivers obtained from openSUSE repos.

Hi, do you meant you never restart Vivaldi for days?
I never got a dead bird on Youtube since I can remember but I use a dual boot system for Windows 11 and have to restart every 1-2 days.
It depends if you use Brave since the same and for the same time as Vivaldi to compare, I use Brave for testing but maybe 1% of the Vivaldi usage time.Cheers, mib

Never turn off computer. It's on 24/7/365. Vivaldi always running. Usually about 3-4 tabs open and youtube is always running.
I reinstalled and started Brave about a week ago. Brave is also running 24/7/365 now. Not yet had a dead bird ever on Brave.Computer is also dual boot w/windows 10. Only start windows once ever monmth or so to update. Run nothing on windows.
I guess 24/7/365 is not strictly accurate.Hope this helps. tom kosvic

I guess it would help you would restart Vivaldi once a day instead of waiting for the next dead bird.
I even turn off my router if I am not at home or at office.

thanks for your comments. I have been running vivaldi virtually continuously for several years. Only in the last month or so did I start getting the dead birds. I thought that some update had changed things. I also thought that others would be seeing this problem so I posted in the Forum. Apparently that is not the case.
I have found that a system reboot is needed to increase time between instances. I have not seen that a restart of vivaldi alone does much good but I will set up some timings of vivaldi reboots to try to test that.
Thus far no dead birds with Brave after 4 days using the same chromium engine.

Hi again, it happen often the developers of Chromium browsers fix Chromium bugs but don't backport it to the Chromium source code.
So it is possible Brave or Edge does not crash if you run it for a long time.
Do you use any YT specific extensions?

Brave browser just locked up (froze) after 4 days while I was scrolling a youtube home page. Not playing a video. Brave has different freeze icon; not a dead bird.Based on this observation, I can conclude that there must be merit to the argument that the problem is in chromium root code and not in vivaldi or brave. I suppose also that there could be some peculiarity of my system that can cause it. But others have said the error message is indicative of "upstream" problems.
I will go back to vivaldi and live with the "dead birds". May they rest in peace.

Hi, just an idea, do you use this chrashed tab further or do you close it and open a new one?
We had a thread about reload a dead bird tab and one user menetioned it is better not to reuse such a tab but better to close it.
Maybe you check this the next time.Cheers, mib

I'm not sure what you refer to. I do not see this tab as a closed one. There was another tab re: dead birds that someone closed and put the messages into this one as far as I can see. I don't know how to do that.
I don't know how to close a tab either. Sorry for any inconvenience.
