Switch Workspace with multiple windows Chaos
-
I have created multiple workspaces.
E.g. work, research, shoppingIn each workspace I have opened multiple windows.
If I switch e.g. from research to shopping only the one windows switches. The others are still research.
I understand the feature like one workspace/topic at the same time.
Either I do research or I do shopping. For my it is difficult to find back the shopping window after using an other application at my PC.
I like to have as few browser windows open as possible to have a good orientation.
And not searching with of the multiple browser windows was my last used one.In my memory at the beginning of workspaces was the behaviour like I discribed.
Since a while I'm very confused in which window I have open which workspace.
This makes my crazy.Kind Regards

@michaelfranziskus The way vivaldi implements workspaces, each window exists in its own workspace. If you need something that is totally separated, profiles might be a better use case for you.

@LonM, in the first moment the approach comes like a yes this could fit.
Considering to use different profiles makes definitely sense in case private and work.
The the advantage is also to have different Favorites and different passwords if you use not the same sync account.I feel like using my passwords and favorites continuously.
I actually use workspaces like this:
I start to research a specific topic, like home automation.
Then I like to interrupt the research about it and like to continue later.
Then I create a new workspace with the topic home automation and park it there. Then I open a other workspace which I have created before.
Like a workspace with financial topics. Then maybe I switch back to home automation to continue.
Or open an other workspace like next holiday journey. It fits perfectly to my needs, until I use multiple windows within an workspace.
Then the chaos begins. Half this topic, half this topic. Like a workbench that is not tidy. I only want to work on one topic at a time and have maximum overview and space on the workbench for it. -
I would add that sessions work similarly to how I expect to work. However, these are not dynamic.
You have to save and reopen them every time. I find that very inconvenient. With workspaces, I love how easy and present the option in the tab bar is to switch between topics and always only have the tabs and, in the best case, only the windows of one topic open.
The workflow is really amazing until I have opened multiple windows within one workspace. -
@michaelfranziskus I suppose an alternative is that you add two workspaces (e.g. topic1a and topic1b for each window. This is maybe a bit awkward, but at least you would be able to use the workspace system for your use case.

I just see that a really similar topic is discussed at feature request.
But the approach to convert sessions and workspaces sounds not good for me.
Maybe really consider the workflow, what the users like to do.
Maybe my description is helpful for this too.Home
