Unsolved Opening a link in a new tab easily (when ctrl+click doesn't work)
-
How can I easily open a link in a new tab on sites that ctrl+click is ignored (instead they open the link directly in the same tab)... right click the tab - open in new tab works but this is cumbersome when doing it on product listings that you want to open a tab for each product you are interested in
-
@dalinar Middle‐click is an alternative. Alternatively the Vimium extension provides functionality to open any number of links in a background tab with a single shortcut.
-
@dalinar Why wouldn't ctl click work ? Just curious
-
@dalinar Try a mouse gesture such as GestureDown over a link.
-
@iqaluit probably something they do with javascript .. it happens on some sites.. in this case, try for yourself on iHerb to open a bunch of products from a search result in tabs with ctrl click
-
@luetage weird for me middle click just closes the tab.. I tried it with edge also, same thing. on 2 different sites, one with the ctrl click problem and the other where ctrl click works
-
@dalinar You know, it's usually a good idea to link to a site you're using as an example. Not just say "iHerb" and assume everyone knows what it is, or forcing them to spend time to find it themselves, possibly ending up on the wrong site.
I get a similar "problem" on https://open.spotify.com when using Ctrl+Click on certain links (albums etc) - it opens a background tab, but also opens the same link in the current tab. Middle click works though, as well as the mouse gesture over a link to open a background tab.
Middle-click and gesture also works fine on https://no.iherb.com/
I wonder if these "developers" test their sites at all or just run third-party "shopping" packages they have no control over ...
weird for me middle click just closes the tab..
Middle click on the tab in the bar itself closes the tab, not middle clicking on a link.
-
@dalinar I found an iHerb site and it works fine. Middle click also worked on my end without issues
-
@Pathduck I mean middle click on the product link in the search results closes the current tab. It also happens if I do that in edge, but in opera it will open in a new tab.
ctrl+click loads in the same tab for vivaldi, edge and opera
on the www.iherb.com site
I have a problem with my spotify account so I can't test that out, but I have noticed this behaviour about the ctrl+click on product before on other sites, I just can't remember which ones they were. It is fairly common, although I don't know why they do that.

Middle-click works at iherb here, and also with the Shift modifier.
-
@paul1149 ah I'll try it, usually shift is for a new window so I didn't think to try to see if it worked for a new tab on that wonky site
update: nope, for me shift is same like ctrl.. when clicking the product link in the search results on www.iherb.com it just opens the product page within the existing tab

@dalinar said in Opening a link in a new tab easily (when ctrl+click doesn't work):
when clicking the product link in the search results
You missed this step from the original recipe.
GestureDown or GestureUp still work fine for me on search results to open links in the background or foreground tabs, but Ctrl+Click and Shift+Click do not work as expected.
I assume that is just down to how the site is coded.
