There is no such popup. No one is forcing you to log in.

@Thot I got it as well on my newer installs asking for the encryption key. It is annoying because it did it several times. So I understand why it is annoying.

@Thot I didn't claim anything was forcing me to login. I said a full size browser window was randomly opening, concealing my main browser window, asking me to login to Vivaldi. Obviously that is disruptive.
Now you can claim that isn't happening for whatever reason I cannot fathom, but I assure you that it is happening, and it began happening several hours ago. It happens when I first open the browser, and it happens randomly while I am using my browser. It appears to be related to the sync issue.

Not related to Vivaldi Sync.
That happens if a calendar or mail account in Vivaldi community is active and needs re-login (oAuth issue with re-login).

@DoctorG Thank you. I don't use them so I just disabled them in settings. I've been using Vivaldi over a year and this never happened before so presumably it's related to the same server problem even though it's not technically a syncing issue.
Edit: I apologise for posting about what I thought was a sync issue in a thread about the sync issue. Now you have already rectified that for me, something for which I am very grateful, I obviously will not be adding more posts to this thread.

Jesus Christ, I went to get my iPad fixed the other day and now I can't get everything to sync.
It's been two weeks since the synchronization service went offline, and at first I thought it was a problem with my network.

Strange, some devices had synced in the last hours, some stopped sync. Not stable at this time.
Perhaps Server is in a test mode. -
Next to the "general" sync issue, my mail has not been syncing since Monday. Not too sure if this is to do with the same problem, or if I should open a new topic on this.
Thoughts anyone?

Do not try to use Sync before 'Issue with Sync Server' is officially communicated as Fixed.
If you think you like to check if sync works before it is officially released as fixed, please create a full backup of Vivaldi profile

It is my warning. I had some issue a few hours ago with my DoctorGTesting account, losing data (bookmarks and some logins) on one Linux profile. I was not really taking good care and had not disabled Sync login in meantime.
Not important for me as i had backup.I do not want to make fear, but my advice is useful.
For me Sync is still experimental testing mode until stated as Fixed in Vivaldi Status page.

@EricJH If you haven't already, I would recommend File->Export of everything you use and wouldn't like to lose (choices: Bookmarks, Reading List, Passwords, Notes). Just to be safe. You might also consider backing up the entire Profile folder, which you can find in Vivaldi->About Vivaldi: Profile Path:

While the last couple of days had its annoyances with Sync not working, I tried out various other browsers.
Firefox was sluggish on my hardware in comparison and while the desktop version is generally nice, it uses slightly more ram and the android version I find cumbersome to navigate.
Opera I found the whole UI weird. Deleted after half an hour.
Chrome is not happening for me personally.
Edge is not too bad, but in comparison to Vivaldi, the UI is lacking.
Brave had too much commercial stuff and felt limited.So, back to Vivalid. Thanks team Vivaldi for this great piece of kit. Since it's Christmas soon, I have decided to donate some $$$. I rather support this instead of moaning about it. Yes, annoying is the lack of sync ATM across my 3x devices but I'll survive. So will everyone else. There's tools for bookmark sync if that's your main concern.
Try Floccus. That even syncs to Firefox by setting up sync folders/profiles cleverly. Not a replacement for Vivaldi sync, but helps in the interim. And will help for those that work not only cross devices, but also cross browsers.
So, if you are in the same boat and have considered changing browsers just because of the short term lack of sync, you'll find that you'll be back in no time anyway.
So instead of beating yourself and others up, make a donation.
