No "globe" view in Google Maps
-
6.6.3271.61 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
Windows 11Zooming in Google Maps is non-smooth, and I cannot enable globe view:
(sorry, german)It works fine in Firefox, Edge and Chrome on the same device. I am logged in with Google.
I tried disabling and re-enabling hardware acceleration in Vivaldi, as suggested in another thread, but no luck.
I tried setting Vulkan as the graphics backend, but no luck (with globe view).Any advice?

@diskostu Check out this YouTube video Globe View - Google Maps - Can't Click 3D View
I have rarely used it, but it works well here and is much better than I remember.

@diskostu
Hi, I am to lazy to watch the video but Vivaldi work, no ad blocker, not logged in.
Vivaldi 6.6.3271.61, Windows 11 on my laptop, specs in my signature. -

@diskostu Perhaps a Vivaldi incompatibility with older GPU?
This could help- Open vivaldi://flags/#ignore-gpu-blocklist
- Set to Enabled
- Restart
I tried this at my Linux and got globe view working.

Same here, 3D view (Globe mode) doesn't work with Vivaldi (current version 6.8.3381.57). I can't select it, the option is disabled.
It may have something to do with the GPU? The PC is equipped with a Radeon RX 7800 XT. On a different PC with a GeForce GTX 1650 (much less powerful) the option is available and works.
With Chrome and Firefox it works, so I guess Vivaldi is to blame.
As a workaround you can launch Google maps using the URL: https://www.google.com/maps?force=webgl
This enables 3D view in Google maps at least in my case. -
@Garilo Welcome here
Check in internal page
vivaldi://gpu
in section "Graphics Feature Status" if you have errors in yellow or red.Do you have latest GPU driver from AMD website?
Do you have internal GPU disabled if using two GPUs? -
Yellow:
- Direct Rendering Display Compositor: Disabled
- Raw Draw: Disabled
Red:
- Skia Graphite: Disabled
- Vulkan: Disabled
- WebNN: Disabled
Everything else is green (either "Hardware accelerated" or "Enabled").
Latest driver: Yes
There is only one GPU present. -
@Garilo Google Maps Globe View works for me with such status page. But i use a older NVIdia GT 710.
I suspect a extension or blocklist setting.
Try Guest Profile and tell if that works. -
From what I'm aware, the 3D globe view in Gmaps is a preference setting.
As already pointed out, it requires WebGL - like any modern browser, Vivaldi fully supports WebGL. There are several sites that allow you to test if WebGL works in the browser.

@Garilo in Google Maps you hovered the Layers image-button, selected the More and activated Globe View?
-
I updated to 6.9.3447.37 and cleared the cache (everything). Now I am able to activate globe view. Don't know if it was fixed by the update or by clearing the cache.

my 2 cents: Globe view works for me even without physical GPU access (Windows Sandbox), also with Skia Graphite, WebNN and Vulcan disabled, in red.
So definitely not a GPU issue.
