Arching Floorpians

@npro omz, is your friend called linus?
ofc that's dreadful & ridiculous for that catastrophe to be possible, just like in @TbGbe 's pet distro, heehee. that said, i should mention this really does surprise me, coz since prolly a year or more ago i radically changed my opinion of fedora kde [i used to dislike it a lot]. the change came for me when i realised that their kde-sig team seemed to have undergone a philosophical change, after which they began reliably doing plasma, frameworks & gear updates within their 6 month fedora release cycles, rather than keeping the packages stale & making users wait til the next big fedora version change.
in fact i changed my mind so much that whilst archlinux kde remains on my main pc [tower], i actually changed my secondary pc [lappy] to fedora kde... as well as maintaining a fedora kde vm on my tower [which i upgraded to 40 several weeks before the official time, & which upgrade went very well for me].
so, imo if your friend linus, heehee, still is interested, at least based on my last year+ with kfedora here, they should have a pretty nice time... unless that weird
rm
issue bites them [i've not experienced any comparable problem here when i've wished to remove various pkgs occasionally]. -

this really is bugging me though
oh dear me. now the mystery has only deepened.
@ybjrepnfr said in Arching Floorpians:
the question is whether the floorp dev baked-in some special magic settings
atm i am using floorp on my lappy [fedora kde], not my usual tower [archlinux kde]. i have just tested a url on that
canberratimes.com.au
domain, with lappy... & it also fails at the paywall.thus, logically, it is NOT floorp itself per se which magically bypasses paywalls. it is specifically MY floorp, on MY archlinux kde. ipso facto, i now believe the time is right for my next logical action...

I wish he were heh, he must be a millionaire by now...
ofc that's dreadful & ridiculous for that catastrophe to be possible
but that's not it, how can a whole DE be a hard dependency of a... virtual keyboard lol, that's ridiculous.
And... these are exactly the things no one will ever watch in youtube reviews, all of those I watched over the years were superficial crap done by casual Linux hipsters. (or Zoomers?)
their kde-sig team seemed to have undergone a philosophical change
that sounds ok (apart from the weed they are smoking with the virtual keyboard), but their (Fedora's) philosophical (or is it marketing...) stance of going full immutable in the next years will be hard to swallow for me...
Also F uses traditionally a lot of memory compared to other distros (2GB for KDE, that's why I wanted to remove things like the virtual keyboard), while they state 2GB is enough lol. Yeah watch me open a browser lol.

didn't I tell you about Fedora?
-
well, sod it. i'm now reverting back to
floorp
instead offfn
, in myarchlinux kde
tower. in addition to those damn blocked news domains in nightly, now i find i can't get livestreaming of the australia vs china ladies soccer match starting right now... but it works fine ofc infloorp
. this is crazy! -
@ybjrepnfr Happy memories
"What does that mean?"
"... Ignore it, it'll be fine!" -
No new features for Floorp 12 have been developed, but I will definitely be back in two months. I'm exciting to releasing Firefox's rapid release based Floorp.
I should be able to develop new features then.

So... "logo" guy/gal has no clue (or has worded it poorly)
-
@npro haha, i literally came here to post that same info for you, only to find you're far too fast for me!
surely surely surely we are now allowed to interpret "Firefox's rapid release based Floorp" as what we thought it meant before, ie, we floorpians are going to be enjoying a ff base not an esr base
-
@npro @ybjrepnfr speaking of Fedora, how did you install Floorp there, from Coprs? Did you build it yourself? Used OBS from OpenSUSE? Don't tell me you used... just flatpaks!?
BLOAT !!!

@npro said in Arching Floorpians:
from Coprs
no not that. i'm scared of it tbh, don't really understand it yet, feels like the wild west, much worse than aur imo [& less searchable too].
my initial installation of floorp in lappy's kfedora was indeed flatpak, which made me feel dirty, but seemed the easiest option at that time. recently though i realised i had overlooked a better option that i'm much more comfy with [more like how i installed ffn]. i just:
- d/l the tarball & hash files from https://github.com/Floorp-Projects/Floorp/releases,
- verify integrity,
- extract the files from the archive
- move it all to
/opt/floorp/
- give myself ownership so that updates work
- create my custom desktop launcher, including my preferred
firejail
prefixes - voila

(judging by the responses there I can't wait for the "official" panic to burst out in the not so far future)
policy here... policy there... where's ma policy

Awesome thing, KDE's new and promising Marknote app can read Vrovladi's exported Notes (.md format) out of the box!
Klevernotes looks even better
(the other one is still a bit primitive)
-
@npro Thanks for hint. This is much better.
-
@DoctorG yikes, someone has wandered into our super-secret thread, who does not use either arch or floorp. someone call for security!
-
@ybjrepnfr And just as I was studiously ignoring this thread, someone cried out for security...
-
@Ayespy oh rats
. loose lips sink ships. this place leaks like a sieve it seems!

@npro more news today from dev:
https://redlib.freedit.eu/r/Floorp/comments/1d7sxio/migrate_to_typescript_solidjs_for_rapid_release/
u/Surapuyousei Developer 20m ago
I have recently learnt TypeScript and it seems to be better than JavaScript.
Now that npm is available, there will be many features in the future.it's almost beginning to feel as exciting as those 2015 V days, when there was such a torrent of fab features arriving & improving, & all things seemed possible... & i was still able to hold my nose to accept the chromium base as a reasonable trade-off for the cornucopia of goodies being gifted to us. alas, those days are gone; i care not at all for current focus on mail, & none of the things important to me are of interest to v devs, leadership, & even swathes of the v community it seems. furthermore, the Faustian bargain is now really revealing itself via the mv3 crap. thank goodness i found
floorp

@ybjrepnfr You had not read the Terms of Joke for this Forum Rope: "ยง13 All Your Secrets Are Ours. All Data Are Ours. All Jokes Are Scanned By Our NI."
And dragons are curious mythical beings, they sniff around, laugh or spit fire.

@DoctorG now you are scaring me, you big meanie!
