Considering to use Vivaldi mail instead of Thunderbird
-
Thanks for your answer as well. You both convinced me to try it. It's a good time bc tomorrow is my last day on duty. I'm off duty over Easter.
I prefer to keep my head clear for such things.
-
Update:
I did it. Currently a little bit overwhelmed from that many features and possible settings.
I try to get used to it.

@VivaldiFan2023 there is no problem running Thunderbird concurrently if you use IMAP.
-
I'd like to use Vivaldi mail only, but I still can't.
Vivaldi has some shortcomings that are important to me:
- the contacts manager is, really, really, really, limited. Without group lists and Carddav access I can't use it;
- Vivaldi mail has a nasty bug and cannot show some emails that are fowarded or otherwise attached to other ones;
- Vivaldi, AFAIK, cannot open eml files from local disk, but can read them in its account structure. It's a rather strange thing.
So far I have to keep around Thunderbird because in some cases I won't be able to read incoming emais.
-
Well, right now I can't tell whether I use the mail-client from Vivaldi permanent instead of TB.
I think it's a "mind-thing". But like I said...I give it a try and some time. I also needed some time to get used to Thunderbird. Same applies for Vivaldi Mail-Client.

The issue relating to EML files, has previously been reported, the developers are aware of it.
As for the mail client not showing emails that are forwarded, I am not seeing this behavior. Forwarded emails are properly in the Sent folder after they are sent. E-mails attached to other e-mails, this could be related to the EML issue.

@VivaldiFan2023 It might work fine but it heavily depends on your needs.
Add one of your less used IMAP accounts, test for a while and see if it suits to you. -

I believe the specific case(*) of Outlook users forwarding mails as EML attachments is being referred to... i.e. it's the same bug (not displaying EML files).
(*) I personally find this a very annoying way of doing things anyway, FWIW.

Oh yeah, and I'll add my voice to the list of satisfied users since the beginning.
The UI for feeds is annoying - especially using keyboard - but apart from that everything works fine!
My only problem in the past was getting some of my wife's accounts to connect but I think those are all resolved.

The different issue I had with EML files, was that an e-mail list I am on, processed e-mails from Gmail addresses as EML attachments and Vivaldi Mail displayed them as such.
If I opened the EML attachment from Vivaldi Mail, Kmail (part of the KDE desktop on Linux) would open - even though it was never configured and display the message text in a separate window.
A change made to the backend of the e-mail list software, corrected this issue.

I've used the wrong word: read "display" rather than "show". Some forwarded emails (emails attached to other emails) are shown in folders tree but their content is not displayed (a blank email).

Not only that.
Spamassassin, for examples, attaches eml files to its informative email in my hosting provider service.
And other encrypted system do the same thing,, even when the mail is simply digitally signed and not truly encrypted.
All these emails are not correctly displayed from Vivaldi mail.

I've also been using the mail client from the beginning and it's very reliable for me now. That's exactly why I came to Vivaldi. I was already familiar with the integrated mail client from Opera, but Opera unfortunately got rid of it.
The contacts in Vivaldi sidebar have to be entered individually. This is not a problem in my case because my mail traffic is quite small.
I recently installed Evolution for other reasons, mainly to use the integrated address book. It is CARDDAV-capable and synchronises with vivaldi.net server and smartphone.
Evolution is basically structured quite similarly to Thunderbird. If you have maintained an address book in TB, it makes sense to run TB alongside it.
If a contact in the address book has an email address that has not yet been added to Vivaldi - Contacts, for example, I can click on this address and the compose window (from Evolution) opens directly, similar to TB. -
Hi again,
after some time using Vivaldi mail I have to admit I like it. In a way Vivaldi was familiar. Like @Dancer18 already stated I also used prior Opera and the included mail-client.
Only thing I changed was to hide some folders on the mail panel, at the first glance it was overwhelming. Additional I don't need everything.
My mail contacts are few, so there was not much to adapt. Of course there will be some things in the future with which I'll be confronted, but one step after the other. In the moment I am satisfied.
