Enable scrolling while selecting a larger area to take as a screenshot
-
I ended up using the Nimbus extension to grab a screenshot of slack. It has scrolling screenshots and a really cool scrolling section screenshot feature that let me get just a screenshot of a really long thread. It would be great to see these features added to Vivaldi.

Larger areas cannot be selected while taking a screenshot, because scrolling is not possible.
Could you include this in a future version?I support.
The absence of this function makes you use third-party programs. -
Each time I want to take a screenshot I have to launch Edge to do so, even tough I do not like it,
from 2018 and still the Vivaldi devs does not want to implement such a small feature, -
Let's put some "icing" on this cake. It is late 2023 and I use several browsers -- Vivaldi is one of them. I also use a few different screen capture extensions (FireShot, etc.). Even with these 3rd party extensions I still could not scroll in Vivaldi to capture two or three pages of material. But I WAS able to scroll and capture these same pages when I tried it in Opera, Edge, Chrome, and Brave browsers.
Could it be that ALL of these browsers can implement this small but very useful feature - and Vivaldi cannot or will not. Vivaldi may be feature loaded but it has several quirks that really make browsing more difficult or annoying. Example -- It has been almost one year now that when viewing product videos from users on Amazon, most of the time the video will play but Vivaldi will not the video controls to work (fast forward, reverse, etc.) -- they are grayed out. Again, I can play these same product videos in Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, and Firefox -- without any issues.
To the guy (or moderator) that suggested to just screen capture a whole page than open it in Gimp (or another graphics app) and just cut the parts that you need... that is simply LAME.

Not nearly as lame as complaining when there are several decent workarounds to this issue.
It is unlikely that this feature will be added any time soon, as this five year old request has only 30 upvotes, and is not yet tagged as In Progress, nor even as Pipeline.
- There are 48 Top Feature requests with 75 votes or more and 32 Popular request with 50 votes or more.

@saerdna I just tried it on the latest version of Firefox. It is painfully slow to capture this short page.
- Capture Page and crop in IrfanView would be quicker
- Capture Scrolling Page in FastStone is a bit slow, but it is easy to do. Just press Escape when the page has scrolled as far as you need, and the image opens in FastStone Capture’s window for further editing or annotation before saving in various image formats.

@Pesala Thanks for the advice. For me the Firefox solution didn't take more time than using an external program. But I have to admit that I can't remember having taken any cropped screenshots since my last post in this thread. So though I'd regard it as a Nice to Have feature I can live without it and still stay with Vivaldi

The fact that an official Vivaldi ambassador is so argumentative and attacking people when they are requesting a very simple addition to an existing feature, specifically to bring the feature up to par with competing browsers, says a lot about Vivaldi as a whole.
No, I shouldn't need a 3rd party program to do this when several other browsers already can. No, it should not be a 4 step process. It's a 2 step process to move all of my data to a different browser that has the features I need. I use Vivaldi because I support it's general idealism about browser features since Firefox has decided to "simplify" it's browser a bit too much in recent times and is lacking HDR support. If Vivaldi (and it's official "Ambassadors") don't care about improving existing features, just adding new ones, then that's not something I want to support.
I understand this particular issue is somewhat niche, and has a low number of upvotes. But it also isn't an extremely hard thing to implement and probably already would have been done so if Vivaldi was open source. It's critical to some people's workflow. Saying "no" is one thing (and already questionable), but attacking people because they want a feature is simply shameful.

...an official Vivaldi ambassador...
An "official" Vivaldi ambassador is nothing more than a volunteer who has offered to be an ambassador for Vivaldi. There is no formal relationship between the company and the individual.
We have all grown accustomed to @Pesala's tone and quirks, but if you don't wish to see his comments you may block them. For my part, I would LOVE to see scrollable selection in screenshots. I have upvoted the feature request and I hope devs get the time and the will to implement it.

It seems to me that @pesala is just trying to be practical.
That is to say, if he knows that what is requested is very little voted and of very selective use, then what he is proposing is to be practical and offer a workaround.
If you go to work and you find yourself stuck in a traffic jam that is taking longer than it should. What do you do?
1.-Wait around and complain that you are going to be late for work.
2.- Turn into the next street and look for another way.
P.D. I don't think "friendly fire" is appropriate.

The fact is that you do need a third-party app. I never attack people for requesting a feature. I point out their folly when they complain that it should already be present when it is not.
Get real. If anyone switches to Vivaldi from other browsers (for good reasons) there are sure to be some features from their previous browser that are missing.
Who does it help to complain that this browser is lame due to missing some niche feature? It helps to offer workarounds, extensions, or third-party apps. Many users are happy to learn about these solutions.
