googlegroups mailing list: Nested groups detected
-
Hi,
Dear experienced vivladi mailers - what have I do differently to avoid this situation?
If I write a mail from vivaldi mail client to a googlegroups mailing list -> everithing is OK
If I answer a list-mail from vivladi client google gives the error message: "nested groups detected"
So I always have to log in to web interface of the groups.google.com to answer the given thread. Again: If I write a single mail in vivaldi client, i can sand it with no problem.I've googled the topic and the only one thing I could find about "nested groups detected" is this:
https://boulter.com/blog/2012/04/09/fixing-nested-groups-detected-when-sending-mail-to-google-groups/How can i change something in the vivaldi-client's settings to be able to answer a list-mail, not just writing always a new thread.
Thanks in advance: dezo

@dezo110r Hi. Welcome to Vivaldi!
It sounds like what you're looking for is an option to Reply To List. It's a feature I would like to see.
Please look in Desktop Feature Requests and check to see if this has not already been requested. If it has not, please request it there. That is where the Vivaldi developers look at when adding new features and the first post for a newly created request gets upvoted by others who would also like it. I would certainly upvote such a request.

@edwardp Hello, and thank you for your reply!
As i remember the mailing list (the system) works something like this way:
If a member sends a mail to the list address, the system distributes the mail to the subscribers as a normal mail, just put it's own list-address into the reply to filed. So any recepient can reply with any normal mail client with one click. And it was working for tens of years. And I had no problems with any other mail client i used before.
I'd prefer to use this method with Vivaldi mail client as well.I don't know what is the real problem and what are the root causes of this behaviour of the mail client now.

@dezo110r Some mailing lists that I am on use Mailman (on Linux) to handle them.
If I reply to a mailing list message, Vivaldi places both the list e-mail address and the e-mail address of the individual who sent the mail, in the To: field. Having a Reply-To-List option, should only place the list e-mail address in To:, so that only one message is sent in response, not two, but the user does have the option in the settings to not receive duplicate messages.

A Reply-To-List feature request has previously been submitted, VB-91488 (Confirmed).

I found this issue marked as resolved in 6.6 release (https://vivaldi.com/zh-hans/changelog-vivaldi-browser-6-6/), but I still face the same issue when replying to an email from google group mailing list.

@molamooo
Hi, i cant test this but do you use Reply List? -
@molamooo @mib2berlin The raw e-mail headers of a list message, should have a
List-Post:
header. Right-click the message body and select Show Raw Headers. If the message has this header, then you will see the Reply List / Reply to Mailing List option.
-
Yes, I can see
List-Post
header and I useReply List
to reply the email. I still see this issue exists -
@molamooo What exactly is the issue you are observing? Are you not seeing the Reply To List option on Google Groups e-mails?
-
I see and use the
Reply to List
option to reply emails from google groups. But the reply cannot be delivered, with a warning email saying "Nested groups detected", just like the title of this thread. -
@molamooo That error is coming from Google's server, the mail server used by Google Groups appears to be misconfigured. It's not a Vivaldi Mail issue.
If it is a Usenet group you're trying to send to, Google Groups discontinued access to Usenet on 22 February:
-
I think this issue is related to vivaldi., because I can reply to google group emails from any other email clients (macos mail app, outlook app, spark, outlook web).
It's not usenet group. I created a brand new group and confirmed the issue exists on normal google group.
