Feature requests for 1.5

I have the changing colors option enabled. I'm on Linux. I frequently find it hard to tell which tab is active, based on appearance. Right now, this page's tab is red, which stands out. But often the tab is the same or a similar color to the main them, some kind of dark brown. There ought to be a way to prevent the active tab from taking on the default tab color, so it will always stand out.
Thanks.

Please make bookmark filter as in Opera to show results in folders the bookmark belongs to. Now in Vivaldi filter results are displayed in one level list.
Thank you.

great, I agree +1
and I would like when we type on bookmark search bar the results appear only when we give "enter", because how I have a lot of bookmarks, the search results is lagging when they appear immediately while I write each word.

- Password manager
Current password view is highly inefficient. there must be possible:
[ul]
- searching in URL addresses/web pages AND in names
- feature for show password
- sort URL addresses/web pages alphabetically
[/ul]
-
Direct download option
If I have direct URL to some file I cannot simply insert in some "URL download field" to save file (somethink like old Opera). In some scenarios add to address field cannot help because target webpage/domain should opening file and not offer file for download. -
Export/Import user profile
And of course possibility to export user profile with settings, tabs. notes, panels, passwords, extensions and its settings to file and import it in other Vivaldi on other PC
- Password manager

I would love to see new email notifications inside windows 10 notification center and popup, whenever the mail launches.

1. Display current zoom level on Ctrl+Mouse wheel if over or under 100%, like in Chrome
2. (More important) Plase remember zoom level for a domain. So if I zoom this form to 150%, it reasonable that I want it to be 150% next time I visit it.

I'd like to use 2 different profiles e.g. 'Work' and 'Personal' on the only installed copy of Vivaldi.
Also would be great to have possibility to have mutual plugins/extensions for the both profiles. -
First of all, KUDOS to you all for doing such an awesome job.
If it's possible I'd REALLY like an option to open in new tab behind the current. I often click on several links on a site and open them in a new tab so I don't keep going back and forth. In Chrome I could open them behind the current one so I wasn't constantly having to go back. If this is possible at all it'd be awesome!

Hello Vivaldi Team

I second the suggestion to have an option to display a list of tab titles instead of previews for a tab stack.. I would make it a lot easier.
-
(or <ctrl>) + left mouse down on <+> always opens the new tab at the end.
Useful to inline activate As Last Tab for New Tab Position when the corresponding tab setting is either After Related Tab or After Active Tab.
someone</ctrl>

- editable right click menu
- master password
- fully portable
- popup right-click menu, when a word is double-clicked.
- side panel fully resizable (if bookmarks chosen, one can resize it so smal, only the icons are shown)
- bookmark panel right/left
- pop up search engine list when typing in search field
- search engine edit -> up/down arrow (or drag) for engine position in the list

Speed Dial - greater control of thumbnail sizes and number of columns
This is the most needed feature for me
THIS
"+"
Ability to adjust the space between elements (vertical/horizontal) -
Let the F2 popup do the search on web as well by default if a keyword, instead of a URL, is typed. Currently it only do the web search when one add, for example, "g" at the beginning.
-
please add feature to select more than one bookmark at once. preferably with shift+arrow. selecting them out of order would be good with shift+click, but i wouldn't find that as useful. i open/delete bookmarks fairly regularly.
easier paning/scaling of the panel would be good as well.
-
@monkey_wrench_gang898 The feature is already available in the Bookmarks Panel or Bookmarks Manager. Use Shift+Click, and/or Ctrl+Click, or Shift Cursor keys.
-
- New feature. Ability to use the "back" button
*
on the start page, after entering a folder. Right now the only way to go back (or up) to the parent folder (or the main page) is to click on the tiny, itsy-bitsy button above the speed dial items. It's sooo inconvenient. I just have finally switched from Opera (chromium) to Vivaldi lately and this one little thing is already driving me insane. (Also, in Opera you could've click anywhere outside the opened folder to go back, but the folders on the speed dial page work differently there). - Change of current behavior. Switch the cursor to
pointer
when hovering over bookmarks, while the "Open Bookmark Panel Items with Single Click" option under Preferences/Bookmarks is checked. I'm not sure though, whether I should report this as a bug or a feature request... - New feature. Add "Open link" option in the context menu, which would simply override the
target="_blank"
attribute in links. It's present in Opera (Presto) and all it does, it opens every link in the current tab, regardless of thetarget
attribute. - Change of current behavior (it might need a further discussion, as there might be users who'd prefer the way it is now). I want the "Open link in incognito window" option to use the existing Incognito window (if there is one), instead of opening new Incognito windows each time it is clicked on. Just like in the Opera (chromium).
- Change of current behavior (I think this should be considered as a bug, but I believe that it might be intended, though unwanted behavior). While in Incognito window, none of the options in the context menu, regarding opening links should lead to opening a link in the non-incognito window. Currently, clicking on a link and selecting "Open link in new window" - while using the Incognito mode - opens a new window with no Incognito mode enabled.
**
IMO that option should open the link in new Incognito window.
Also, I wish for a better, overall touchscreen support, but first I've got a dozen of bug reports (regarding touchscreen devices) to fill in, before I'll think of any new features for such devices.
*
By the "back" button I mean the<
button in the browser's UI,β Backspace
on the keyboard and "backward" navigation button that some mouses have built-in.**
It's especially annoying on a tablet, where the menu items are simply too small for human fingers and since "Open link in new tab" and "Open link in new window" are right next to each other, clicking the wrong one by mistake is quite common.
Adding to that, Vivaldi doesn't support touch gestures, so using the context menu is the only way to open link in a new tab on a touchscreen device.
Ironically, scaling the UI has no effect on context menus. So it won't help to avoid the mis-clicks (or should I say mis-taps). It also looks awful and takes up space from an already small tablet screen.
That's frustrating. Opening websites from the Incognito window in the main session window could be a real nightmare for a paranoid person, who browses 90% of the web in the Incognito mode...EDIT: Here's an illustration for my 3rd suggestion (taken from my old post on this forum):
- New feature. Ability to use the "back" button
-
Please add the following functions:
- View the download speed, add sound or other indication when the download is complete.
- In Tile pages concurrently scrolling of all pages in the keeping of certain keyboards etc.
- Make controls (mouse gestures) for folders fast access (currently for the return of the folder you need to click on <<*Name Floder).
- The option to customize icon extension field (background color, size, order etc.)
- Supplement icons such as cut, paste, copy, and so on.
- Add the possibility to catch and move the icons on Webpages panels and extension icons.
- Add Sesion manager to the panel.
- Add History manager to the panel.
- The possibility of placing the panels up and down, not just left and right.
- Portable version.
- More option for right click on Extension icons, not only Hide button.
- Customize speed dial Thumbnails and Folders.
- Better History manager (something like Bookmarks manager) inside Speed dial's top bar.
- Better Download manager (something like Bookmarks manager) inside Speed dial's top bar.
- Export complete user profile (settings, bookmarks, webpages in panels, themes, background pictures, notes, paswords etc.) It would also as a backup. (I do not think the synchronization feature, because not everyone wants to keep their data on servers, but a full backup of your profile).
- Add controls +/- on zoom in status bar (by moving the slider to set the desired values ββit is not as accurate and fast).
- Hotkey or mouse gesture to Hide or Minimize browser.
- Add the function or stopping the video at Youtube site in the web panels. (now you need to click on the icon II , otherwise it can not stop, and I think it would be more convenient).
-
Personal Showstopper to let Opera 12 RIP:
- The Bookmark Search should not only show the found Bookmark, it should show the Folder-Path to (fe. like in Opera grayed out)!!!
Did you see the Problem!?
-
If you press the + in the Bookmark-Sidepanel to add a Bookmark it should not generate a blank Bookmark, it should be pre-filed with the actual page, with the cursor in the Name field (maybe you can add another icon for it, fe. the bookmark icon). Now the only acceptable, but not good, way for me is to drag and drop it from the address bar -> click edit -> select the name -> edit it, it's annoyingly complicated. If you really need an empty Bookmark to start with, you can put that in the right click menu or use two icons.
-
Better download handling per Mime-Type/File-Extention. To make it possible to download pictures automatically in the background.
Other features i would like to have (most from Opera, for some you had to edit config files):
- An option to hide the Screenshot in the "Edit Bookmarks" menu, it costs to much place. With the ability to expand it only when you need it, or better show it in pop-up with a mouse-over effect over an icon or a mini screenshot besides the Description.
- Reorder Searchengines with the ability to insert visible dividers (fe. thin lines, ideally with custom names right aligned).
- A custom Searchengine "Find in Page" so i don't have to press ctrl+f, just past it in the ever showing search field with a middle press (in Linux).
- Edit the search engines by right click on the search bar -> "Edit Searchengines".
- Reorder Extention AND let us get to the Extention menu through the right click menu.
- Change the ratio in the Page-tiling mode for the pages (from fix 50/50, 33/33/33...) with a mouse handler between the pages. Like on the Windows 10 desktop.
- Spellcheck for more then one language at the same time. I think many people need their language plus English.
- Right click on the address bar -> "Open in [other installed browser(s)]".
- History- & OpenTabsAndWindows-Sidepanel.
So, this are the most important for me. 1-3 are musts, 5+8 are near musts and the rest are "i can but don't want to live without ;)"-features.
But thank you for the best modern browser yet and the possibility to go beyond Opera!

That's already implemented (at least in the Windows version). I don't know why my language is duplicated in the menu though, but at least the spellchecking works fine...

I see a lot of feature requests on Speed Dial but one that I don't remember seeing is the ability to drag and drop to organize folders in the Speed Dial.
It may not be a function that we use very often, but in the case that you have added a ton of Speed Dial and wishes to reorganize them into folders, this will make it much more convenient.Also. as some users might have mentioned before, I would like the tab stacking function to be more similar to the one we had in Opera 12.
I think being able to expand and collapse the tab stack would give us more flexibility in working with tabs. Also with regards to tabs, I think that it will be good if we are given the option to enlarge the size of the tab preview so that we will be able to see more details from that tab itself instead of just a small thumbnail, which may not be able to tell us much at all.
It will also be great if Vivaldi can replicate the way Opera 12 organize the bookmark panel, allowing us to use a split view to show the folders in the top section and each individual bookmarks in the bottom section.
It is indeed very exciting to see many of our highly requested features slowly getting integrated with the browser!
I've been using Vivaldi for over a year since its technical preview days, and I will continue to be very patient for the day more features get worked out, for the highly-anticipated sync and mail to arrive, and for me to finally be able to claim that Vivaldi has beaten Opera 12 hands down. (:
