Youtube trialling new ad-blocking

@CalebM The forum has a Block feature if some users trigger you.
Go to: https://forum.vivaldi.net/user/calebm/blocks to add users to your block list.
As a typographer, I like to use proper dashes — but it is not necessary for use on a forum. I think luetage must be tugging your chain.
Maybe on a blog, if you care about such things.
Alt+0150 for en-dash: –
Alt+0151 for en-dash: — -
Pesala, I'm not the one who is arguing. Two people are arguing with me.
Luetage was being serious.
I am a writer AND I was a typesetter when I was younger, so I know what an M-dash is, and I know it is troublesome to type them.
-
@CalebM Vote for Autocorrect for Edit Boxes if you haven't done so yet. There is no such thing as autocorrect to fix other users, so just block them. Some folks are just argumentative by nature (me included).
-
We can all be argumentative at times. I am more reactive than argumentative. When someone gets petty with me, I do respond.
-
@CalebM I wasn’t serious, I trolled you. @barbudo2005 made a good general point and has been outstandingly helpful in this topic. I simply didn’t like your tone.

So you're a jerk. Okay, I've got it. Now leave me alone. I come here to get help, not to have my buttons pushed.

I think whats happening is that MY firefox IS currently working as i have not used it for a long time, & no doubt after some days they will discover i am using adblockers & then the circus of control will start, but for now i'm fine , however these 2 items have got my vivaldi operating as normal after having been completely blocked from any content after 3rd warning, may well work on any browser, but i prefer vivaldi.
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/477725-youtube-iframe-adblocker
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfoinstal both, hey presto, For NOW at least
Thank you, today 06.11.23 ublock origin again stopped working on Youtube, i installed your addon and script .. works fine .. thanks alot
-
well youtube has done it , can not use adblocker with vivialdi , they have embeded the adblock notice into the player . so can not get any videos there , i knew they would do this not so much a adblocker thing as a player thing as a said before
-
@aiinseinn, @glenart1, in Vivaldi you don't need Tampermonkey, you can install the script direct as an extension.
- Download the script and save it in a folder
- Open the Extension page in Vivaldi in developer mode
- Drag the script in the Extension page and click on install in the Pop-up
- Done

About four days ago, I switched from Vivaldi's adblocker to uBlock Origin and it is still working for me. I can view all of YouTube's videos. If it stops working, I'll try the script that was posted above.
-
@Catweazle thank you very much
-
@Catweazle Thank you for reminding us this step-by-step procedure.
-
@Catweazle stuck on third step, after dragging script on extension page browser just open new tab with source text. did I miss something?
-
@semsemius, have you put the extensions page (Shift+Ctrl+E) in developer mode?
-
The iFrame script works fine, but I have also observed a side effect that shows that it works
- It no longer records the videos I have watched
- And by opening a video from the Homepage list in a new tab I have obviously put YT in an identity crisis, LOL
Video is not available
The owner of the Video has disabled its playback on other websites
Watch it on YouTubeClicking on it, it works without problems and in Invidious too
-
@Catweazle yes of course
-
@markbara That bromite screenshot looks like you're pointing at a static downloaded copy of the list on your PC. Which won't automatically update. If nothing else, your sources should be live links, like...

Sorry if this was already mentioned. Long thread

Been using it for about a couple of weeks. Not had a problem yet. I did see the script checker page go red once. However, YT was still working, as they said it might.

You know, if YouTube just put still ads on their pages, like a magazine has, I wouldn't mind. But imbedding video ads right in the video I want to see is totally unacceptable. Google, the owner of YouTube, is already so rich, I feel no guilt for side-stepping the ads.

This seems like a useful thread.
I personally pay for YouTube Premium, but have been receiving support requests regarding this topic.
It would be so helpful to have a summarize feature built into the forum.
