Youtube trialling new ad-blocking
-
@semsemius, have you put the extensions page (Shift+Ctrl+E) in developer mode?
-
The iFrame script works fine, but I have also observed a side effect that shows that it works
- It no longer records the videos I have watched
- And by opening a video from the Homepage list in a new tab I have obviously put YT in an identity crisis, LOL
Video is not available
The owner of the Video has disabled its playback on other websites
Watch it on YouTubeClicking on it, it works without problems and in Invidious too
-
@Catweazle yes of course
-
@markbara That bromite screenshot looks like you're pointing at a static downloaded copy of the list on your PC. Which won't automatically update. If nothing else, your sources should be live links, like...

Sorry if this was already mentioned. Long thread

About four days ago, I switched from Vivaldi's adblocker to uBlock Origin and it is still working for me. I can view all of YouTube's videos. If it stops working, I'll try the script that was posted above.
Been using it for about a couple of weeks. Not had a problem yet. I did see the script checker page go red once. However, YT was still working, as they said it might.

uBlock Origin is still working for me.
You know, if YouTube just put still ads on their pages, like a magazine has, I wouldn't mind. But imbedding video ads right in the video I want to see is totally unacceptable. Google, the owner of YouTube, is already so rich, I feel no guilt for side-stepping the ads.

This seems like a useful thread.
I personally pay for YouTube Premium, but have been receiving support requests regarding this topic.
It would be so helpful to have a summarize feature built into the forum.

So, Getraf, you are paying $13.99 per month?
-
@CalebM I'm around $10 because I've been subscribed since the Red days, but yeah, I use YouTube and YouTube Music so much it's worth it to me.
-
I remember when the company that makes the Etch-a-Sketch toy decided they had to raise its price, which cost $10 at the time. They were so concerned that they would lose sales that they exported the manufacture of that product to a third-world country to save money. Perhaps YouTube could learn something from that company. I might consider paying YouTube $10 a month to get rid of the ads, but I will give up YouTube entirely before I pay them $13.99 a month.

@barbudo2005 Even this is now detected and blocked.
-
-
@barbudo2005 Yup. I have the script installed, and for the last week it worked perfectly, but today I again got the usual warning “you can play three videos before blocking”.
-
No one using the script has reported any problems, so it should be your installation.
Are you using the built-in adblocker or uBO?
-
No such issues for me, only using this script and the Vivaldi blocker. Anyway, currently I use mostly the MotionBox Video Browser or PokeTube, instead of entering the YT page.
@SuperOscar, have you installed the Script with GreasyMonkey or directly as extension?
The script only should fail if you have YT open in several tabs. -
I’m using the builtin blocker.
But now it actually looks like i still CAN play videos even after the third one in a row, even if I initially got the warning. Fourth video running (I’m running them from beginning to end just to make sure).

Directly as extension.
-
@glenart1 "So there!" - Ha ha!
-
@TheQuantumAlpha I didn't get a notification for this post... strange
We are rebuilding the engine to try to decipher youtube's HRLs...
your project sounds intriguing indeed

At the moment I'm testing Adblocker Ultimate with the Vivaldi blocker and also the iFrame script desactivated, it works from Desktop in hidden mode, Websites don't see that you are using an adblocker. Until now it works fine, even in YT, no ads nor nags.
(Windows, iOS, Android, also as Browser extension)
