Youtube trialling new ad-blocking
-
Thanks for the feedback. My immediate problem is that I disabled Vivaldi's ad-blocking feature (at least, I think I did), but YouTube is still blocking me in Vivaldi. Once they stop blocking me, I can install uBlock Origin in Vivaldi and see what happens.
Can someone remind me of how to disable Vivaldi's ad-blocker, just in case I'm doing it wrong?
YouTube really has put me between a rock and a hard place. Their ads are just too obnoxious to endure, yet $14 a month is way more than I'm willing to pay.

You can install uBO right now, no wait is necessary.
And look this posts to install a script to avoid the problem in YT:

I hate going "under the hood" when dealing with browsers, but I'll do what you suggested. Thank you.

Your philosophy is totally wrong, and I will illustrate it with an example:
According to you, if a person buys a Toyota car, then he should be sure that 100% of the car's components were manufactured by the Toyota factory, from the lights to the brakes. This, as we all know is not so, Toyota achieves its excellence by "integrating" to what it manufactures the best additional components (Extensions, Mods, Scripts, etc) to achieve its final goal.
This is how all browsers from Firefox to Chrome are "designed" from their conception.
It is impossible to obtain "excellence" in 100% of the components of a browser without "helping" with other manufacturers of lights and brakes that have reached excellence, because they are dedicated only to that.

I didn't realize that I had expressed a philosophy. I said I would follow your suggestions, so why are you arguing with me?

Of course you did not name the word philosophy, but clearly it is implied "a way of thinking of the browser". When you hate to do something, there is an implicit conception that you are being "forced" to do something you shouldn't do, because the browser should provide it to you naturally.
And truth be told, I'm not mentioning it for you since the concept is already in your head, but for the new users that will join this forum.

You know, there is nothing in this world which is worse than people who have to argue every little point. Whoever you are, you are not in a position to give life lessons to people -- not to me, and not to anyone else on this forum. In the future, please don't respond to my comments. I don't need the aggravation.

@CalebM Could you please use a real dash? A double hyphen‐minus is not a good replacement for a dash. I know it’s a bad time to start arguing about the correct use of punctuation marks, but this triggered me.

How absurd that anyone should care about such a minor thing! The fact is, I disagree with you. When a proper dash isn't available, there's nothing wrong with using two hyphens. I've been doing that for fifty years (and I'm not about to stop). Why should it "trigger" you???

Getting back to business, I have now turned off Vivaldi's ad-blocker and installed uBlock Origin, and the problems with YouTube have disappeared. Of course, those problems might start up again, but I have confidence that the developers of ad-blockers will find a way to keep up with YouTube.
Oh, let me add that I've decided to keep FireFox and use it to play YouTube videos. I have too many windows open in Vivaldi. If I continue to use FireFox, I suspect Vivaldi will become more stable. One Vivaldi window has hundreds of tabs open, and I may move that to Firefox too.

Thanks for the tip, Hadden89.

@CalebM Wow, such arrogance. If you wanted to be blocked, you are succeding. Bye.
-
I'm the arrogant one??? I've got two people criticizing me for no good reason, and that makes me arrogant? By all means, block me.
-
Keep it civil and on-topic people or I will use executive privilege to simply remove any non-topic posts.

@CalebM The forum has a Block feature if some users trigger you.
Go to: https://forum.vivaldi.net/user/calebm/blocks to add users to your block list.
As a typographer, I like to use proper dashes — but it is not necessary for use on a forum. I think luetage must be tugging your chain.
Maybe on a blog, if you care about such things.

Pesala, I'm not the one who is arguing. Two people are arguing with me.
Luetage was being serious.
I am a writer AND I was a typesetter when I was younger, so I know what an M-dash is, and I know it is troublesome to type them.

@CalebM Vote for Autocorrect for Edit Boxes if you haven't done so yet. There is no such thing as autocorrect to fix other users, so just block them. Some folks are just argumentative by nature (me included).
-
We can all be argumentative at times. I am more reactive than argumentative. When someone gets petty with me, I do respond.
-
@CalebM I wasn’t serious, I trolled you. @barbudo2005 made a good general point and has been outstandingly helpful in this topic. I simply didn’t like your tone.
