Youtube trialling new ad-blocking
-
@iAN-CooG
Ah, I was not sure as they published it today.Cheers, mib
-
I had to switch back to uBO, since with the Vivaldi blocker with the default lists, the YT threats "Adblockers are not allowed" "The player will be blocked" and blah blah appeared again
At the moment no problems with uBO (?)I am a poor retiree who does not have enough money to pay even more to connect to the network, especially because YT Premium is not exactly the cheapest of the streaming services. I'm afraid that in the future I will have to send YT to comb the desert, using alternatives as much as possible, the old Odysee would perhaps be the best candidate for content.

It has been a free ride for many years. Google has every right to enforce ads on their own website, because their business model depends on revenue from ads and content creators. Content creators depend largely on ad revenue from Google to make their work worthwhile. I presume that content creators earn nothing from users who use ad-blockers — is that correct, or do they get paid regardless for the number of views?
For now, a command chain for History Back, Delay 10, History Forward assigned to GestureBack, GestureForward works for me to stop ads displaying. UBlock Origin also works fine, but I refer not to rely on extensions if there is a decent workaround.

@Pesala, I am clear that Google makes money with ads, I said on other occasions that if it were just the occasional banner on the page or on the edge of the video, as others do too, I wouldn't bother, but this is not the case, Independent of the other garbage, like randomly interrupting playlists, tons of clickbaits, usertracking and the sale of this data, on top of that they crush a concert in the middle with an advertorial and things like that, it reaches a point where I can only say that they go to hell.
It's not the ads, it's the abuse of its monopoly that Google claims, to block all this crap as pure personal defense.
It is enough to see the statistics of ads and trackers by watching a single video, to realize that there is more of this than on any other page. In the past, in a video, with the Vivaldi blocker, I counted up to 20 trackers and 30 attempts for advertisements. -
Now also with uBO (Dimash Story of one sky) This one also rejected in the front ends (Piped and others), i still can view the video in Andisearch and copy the link from there, but in YT i see this
-
No popup here in the same video with uBO (default lists).
It appears that this is moving by country.
-
I think so, i tried with VPN without adblocker and have different ads in the video, but also with VPN with adblocker i see the YT middlefinger. No problems to view the video in Andisearch without ads (sandboxed).
At the moment i will use a front-end or Andisearch for some videos of YT and for others i use Odysee (IMDB), that seems the best alternative. -
Manage to bypass this problem by deleting all my youtube and google related cookies. Now the site works fine, but I had to disable the build-in Vivaldi ad blocker.
-
@markbara But the point is I DON'T see ads!
-
Really weird, i do not get such block by Youtube with Vivaldi Blocker.
-
YT has blocked video player complaining about the ADB. Keeps blocking it even after I disable ADB for youtube. Have tried the Chrome + ADB and it is working.
What could I do to make it work on Vivaldi too? -
@Sodik YouTube prohibits the blocking of ads, see here:
There are only two options left:
Either you leave your adblocker disabled on YouTube and watch the ads.
Or you can use YouTube Premium.
-
using Chrome and ADP is working as before. In Vivaldi playing videos while I'm logged in is prohibited. So clearly there are more than 2 options you copy and paste from them.
-
@Sodik
Hi, some user report the same for uBlock, iicr one user report cleaning all cookies for YT get it back to work.
This could be the reason why it is working in Chrome for you.Cheers, mib
-
hi mib,
I tried what you suggested but the issue is the same. I cleared all the cookies that were shown to be related to youtube, restarted the browser and disabled all adblockers and finally refreshed the page, but I'm experiencing the same behavior. Strange enough Chrome still works with adblocker while I'm logged in.
Any more suggestions that could help continue using ADB on Vivaldi? -
I use* Vivaldi's native blocker with filters from https://filterlists.com and blocking stuff with
uMatrix/edit: switched to uBo at last. Works like a charm, no issues with ads or video blocks due to youtube anti-detection or whatever.
*(amongst other ways from time to time to check their efficiency)

@Sodik
I am sorry but I have no ad's or blocking with the Vivaldi ad blocker, it depends where you are and maybe the user behave or the browser you use.
Nobody knows exactly how Google select.
I bet other user are blocked with DBP and Chrome, these workarounds with uBlock was all for Chrome.Cheers, mib

There is no workarround for the moment, there are only these options:
Turn off the adblocker
Pay for YT Premium
Use a front-end, despite Google also is blocking these one by one, but JewTube (Invidious) still works
Watch YouTube Videos in Andisearch, but not works for all YT videos
Watch on desktop with SMPlayer
Use an alternative streaming service without such an amount of crap like YT, the best seems Odysee (Online service of IMDB, not related with Google) -
The reason some users see this and some don't is not necessarily their ad blockers of choice. Users of the exact same software may get completely different experiences. Google is testing this change on an increasing number of users over time to measure its impact.

Thanks @daniel for confirming that. I have a feeling that the YT behavior regarding the ADB was slightly different each and every day. Meanwhile, I'll stick to Chrome or whatever works. Hopefully, the solution will be available someday.
Anyways I'm still open to testing the other suggestions.
