So you seem to be mistaken in your assessment.
With much humbleness, this happens very rarely
. You probably were running it under XWayland without knowing it, which is not native Wayland. Previously you needed to use some switches, nowadays you just have to go to
vivaldi://flags/#ozone-platform-hint
and choose either Auto if you are on Wayland or choose it explicitly. (Keep in mind that -afaik- Vivaldi on Wayland is still not officially supported). -

A broken llvm-toolchain and libllvm15 update can cause this for all Chrome/Chromium related browsers.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/llvm-toolchain-15/+bug/2026830Workaround:
sudo find /home/ -depth -type d -name GPUCache -exec rm -rf {} \;
llvm-toolchain-15 (1:15.0.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.1) is working just fine.

@npro I am running x11 and have the same problem.
Then you should have have read the 1st answer in this thread pointing to an existing thread?
So much for a nice community: "seems like you haven't done your research"
Insulting insinuations and no help. Why bother to comment @npro ?
, in which it was me who offered the solution https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/681180 ? So much for not providing any help.
Seems like someone else came here to insult, playing the advocate to have an alibi, not reading the thread properly, and not having used search (or even scrolling down) to find the existing solution in all the threads (incl. this one) that were created afterwards by others like you:

Some users tend to be lazy. They do not read. And demand solutions fast. So you have to live with the fact, that some helpers dislike such behaviour. But perhaps ChatGPT can help you in a better way, pleasing you more.
-
@DoctorG This is not about pleasing but general behaviour. I was searching for answers in the forum and found the nonsense, unpolite and insulting answer. It is just a waste of time for everyone and does not bring this forum any good.
-
@larsaamodt I presented you a fast solution in https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/684082
A fast and working support solution.if you need to complain about something, tell the Ubuntu devs they should not break Chromium browsers by their updates.
Sorry that you feel bad about my answer on "lazy users", it was not my goal being unfriendly. Apologise me.

If i wish to continue using Vivaldi on Linux, which Linux do you suggest? Ubuntu seems to not favor Chromium products and are more inclined to get Open Source such as Firefox to perform well. Looks like its up to us to decide whether to go 'open source' Firefox, 'partial open source (viviadi)', or 'closed' Chrome.

@bvt
Hi, the error in Ubuntu affects all Chromium browser but we have many Ubuntu and Mint user working happily with Vivaldi.
There is an article about the issue which explains it very good.Cheers, mib

thank you for the information mib2berlin. unfortunately I've deleted the vivaldi GPUCache a number of times, but to no avail. when some 'clickable area' is highlighted the link is shown in the bottom left of the browser. Some of the sites i go to do NOT have any link showing on 'clickable areas' such as "Submit". For example the "Submit" button on chatgpt won't work, but on Firefox, logging onto chatgpt is a fraction of a second and just like bard, i don't have to log on every time. bard works fine of course, since its on a chromium browser. It feels like we are getting pushed to use products that work, and of course Linux (23+ years for me) is the underdog. Of course, it could be Ubuntu making Firefox work better than other browsers.

@bvt
Hm, then this a different issue.
I cant test chatgpt and I don´t want create an account for this.
You can create a new thread for the chatgpt issue, I guess some user use it and can help you.
You meant this https://chat.openai.com/auth/login one?
Two things you can check are:
Disable the Vivaldi ad blocker for the page.There is a setting in Settings > Network
To get the Bing chat to work you have to change the browser, Chrome is default, try Edge.Cheers, mib

yes on the chatgpt site (as an example). I put in my username and click "Continue" then my password is prompted and "Submit" does nothing. I've disabled all of my extensions. In the meantime I made vivaldi my secondary browser for the next few months and see if this gets cleared up. thanks so much for your suggestions.
