Developer Tools Window is Too Small When Opening

@Gwen-Dragon said in Developer Tools Window is Too Small When Opening:
I updated related bugs for Vivaldi 3.6 version.
- VB-70714 "Developer Tools window is too small by default"
- VB-49291 "Dev Tools window doesn't remember its last size across tabs"
Thanks a lot!
-
Any news on those two bugs?
It gets pretty annoying. -
@Gwen-Dragon
That sucks!By any chance, do you know if one can alter the dev tools' window size with a custom extension (or a Vivaldi script mod placed in browser's HTML)? Or maybe catch the (undocked) dev tools opening event in any way?
If possible, I'd try to develop a workaround because this really kills my workflow by now. -
Any updates on this?
I just came back to Vivaldi after a long break, but I have the exact same behaviour as described above. Not to mention whenever I do CTRL+W to close dev tools the main tab goes with it as well.
Thanks

3 years later and no team member gave any importance, this is as a punishment for those who work with website development, with each new session having to resize the devtools window, I will be following to see if any news is posted, but if in 3 years no one did anything, it is not now that they will, regrettable.

@FilipeVaucci There are thousands of bugs and a small team. Since there is a simple workaround (dock the Developers Tools window),
this would have a low priority. -

VB-43890 - i updated bug tracker entry for 5.6 Snapshot.
Sad that Chromium 106 remembers the size of window and Vivaldi: not.

Vivaldi 6.1.3035.111 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Chrome 114.0.0.0
Windows 10 Version 21H2 (Build 19044.3208)Reproduction method (shorter):
In a loaded Vivaldi tab:
- F12: DevTools is only 626×633px
- Mouse resize DevTools to proper size
- Mouse click top-right cross button to close DevTools
- F12: DevTools is again only 626×633px, it does not save size on close
-
@jesus2099 I can confirm it opens as 640×640 all the time and does not remember size.
I updated tracker entry for 6.1 Stable and 6.2 Snapshot.
VB-43890 "Developer tools window position and size are not saved between sessions" - Confirmed -
This can be fixed by manually editing the Preferences file at
Vivaldi/User Data/Preferences
.- Have a single Vivaldi window open and move it to the size and location that you want your Dev Tools to appear in. (You don't have to do this if you want to edit screen coordinates by hand.)
- Close Vivaldi so it doesn't overwrite the edited preferences.
- Open the Preferences file in your text editor of choice. For example, you can use vscode.dev and press Shift+Alt+F to format the JSON into something readable.
- Find
{"browser": {"window_placement": {...}}}
, copy the coordinates, and paste them over the existing coordinates in{"browser": {"app_window_placement": {"DevToolsApp": {...}}}}
. They were both near the top of the file for me; probably will be for you too.
- Save the new file over your existing Preferences file. (Make sure it's just called
Preferences
!) It doesn't matter if it's a single line like before or not.
Note that if you set it to touch the edges of your screen, its window will still be slightly smaller than that when you open it.

Awesome @Nnnes!!!
Here are my nice settings for a 1024×800 window:"top":100,"bottom":900,"left":24,"right":1048
Update
Removed spaces and added quotes as Vivaldi is very fussy and considers Preference corrupt.
Also now the Preference file is now stored within a new subfolder:%LocalAppData%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Preferences
not justVivaldi\User Data\Preferences

I tried to debug the bundled JS to identify what the problem is, and found 3 different issues related.
1.- From
maximize
function, on thedevtool
page types, "g.ZP.getWindowState(e);" is always returningundefined
which is unable to dispatch theWINDOW_STATE_CHANGED
action type because it required theoldState
, if I remove this check and only keep "C.Z.windowPrivate.setState(e, "maximized")" it works properly, but the other functionality might be required to keep consistency on the global state2.- From
openWindow
function, thes
value is alwaysfalse
for developer tool and preventsg.ZP.isMaximized(e)
to be executed, this is bad because we want to check if the window is maximized or not fornormal
anddevtools
window type3.- From
onDevtoolsUndocked
function, which is being executed every time we start adevtool
, the values ofn
are always the same causing the window keep having the same size, I think these values should be updated on every execution and having the last values used -
(Confirming the issue for Vivaldi on macOS. Dev tools consistently open in seemingly random size and position. Would be great to remember size and position similar to Chrome.)

Fore more complete information about OS: the issue is on Linux, Windows and Mac.
Was reported in Vivaldi bug tracker and known.
