Solved Sync Workspaces
-
@RKN38
It's a known issue that the devs are working on. Hopefully it'll get fixed by the time the next Stable release comes out. -
@RKN38 enable auto saving of session, so that you have a backup you can revert to.
-
@RadekPilich thanks for this suggestion! I know how to save a session, but iยดm not aware of an autosave function?
-
@RKN38 You are right, I was mistaken, it's not auto saving, you have to do it manually. I just did, thanks for reminding me

Synching workspaces at least between several desktop computers is must. That's when the effort of keeping workspaces really pays off.
I've tried using the workspace feature, but when that context is only local on that computer it's not very useful to me.
I also agree with others on this thread that ideally it should be possible to have some "private"/"local" workspaces and others synced.
Looking forward to the day when I can keep my tabs in workspaces and continue that context on another computer.

would love to see this feature!
also, reading about workspaces randomly being cleared is a bit alarming...

Voting for this feature

Voting for synced workspaces, it's an essential productivity feature.

There are countless requests for greater sync.
I love the personalisation but Sync is falling behind as newer personalisation is released.
Thus makes setting up a new instance of Vivaldi an absolute pain.My suggestion, take a quarter to get Sync up to date:

Now that version 6.1 has been released, can anyone confirm, that workspaces are synced now and the bug of emptied workspaces has been resolved?
-
@jbrugger That I do by using a different profile for work and personal.
That way personal bookmarks, history, even extensions are kept aside one from the other.
I have two windows open, one per profile, so I can access both. This is more interesting than keeping some areas out of sync. In case you need to reinstall at work, or at home, having them in separate profiles can make the process really easy.

Not implemented yet.

The 'Open All Tabs' feature already syncs the tab stacks. All it needs is to sync workspaces.
When I imagine 'Syncing Workspaces', I'd think of the following -
- Provide an additional option in the Synced Tabs menu to only sync tabs from a particular workspace. Or,
- 'Open All Tabs' opens the tabs in their respective workspaces.

@dotKokott. @computerli and others. To show support for the feature request, upvote the first post.

I want this feature sooner than later. Upvoted

Really killer-option is syns workspaces and sync tab groups. It would be super - useful option to migrate to Vivaldi! Wait it!
-
Today I noticed that my workspaces synced. Am I the first one to notice this?

+1 looking forward to this feature

I just installed vivaldi on my laptop after realizing that Arc is not available on windows yet. Workspaces are a critical feature for me and I find that they are here, and it works really well. Things are going great, so I install the android app and start syncing. I can't figure out how to sync workspaces so I search for it and find this thread.
I am bouncing off of this browser and back to Chrome because workspaces are not synced. Syncing workspaces is a critical feature. Workspaces are 90% worthless to me without syncing. It makes my life organized on one machine, but since I use 3 different devices to do my work, am I expected to maintain spaces in duplicate in 3 different places? I don't have the time or brainspace to pull that off. All of the extra things people are discussing in here are nice to have's, such as per workspace settings etc. Regular people with lots of hats to wear just need this to work at the top level, and we need it quickly.
In order to make this concrete, here is a real life example. I am wearing multiple hats and I need to put together part of a sales presentation. It will be a new activity for me, so I create a workspace to do some exploration and reading. I am clicking through SERP links, opening tabs, skimming, closing tabs, and eventually have about 10 or so that I need to read through in detail. Oh wait, it's time to take my kids to soccer practice, so I jump up, grab my phone, and leave the house. Now I am loitering in a soccer field for an hour and I pull out my phone. I go into chrome, into recent tabs from their shit sync, and try to find the specific 10 tabs I opened in their list of 8 million recent tabs from my desktop. It takes me at least 5 minutes, but probably more and about an hour's worth of frustration. Eventually I get them all open, read through them, close some, keep some, and head home after soccer practice ends. Now I am back on my desktop trying to compare to the open tabs on my phone to see which ones to close so I can reference them again in the morning when I start building these presentation slides.
I had to manually curate state between a known workspace on multiple devices twice. What you have in Vivaldi today is nice, but it does not solve a problem that can't be solved by literally every other browser and the 8 million tab organizing/workspacing/switching extensions out there. Please, for the love of god, get workspace sync in a basic MVP format into this browser, and quickly. It is 2023 and I can't for the life of me figure out why all sync is basically the same as it has been since 2016 when our usage has evolved enormously.
