Upgrade to Chromium 114 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3023.3

I don't see any log related the 3023.10 but it stops at 3023.3. Why that?
There are no source code changes between those two builds. The only change as such is that the small build step that makes DRM work on Mac (which is not part of the Vivaldi source code) was fixed in .10, and we had actually made the same change for .3 ; but building with a new number, .10, made it possible to autoupdate the build for the snapshot users. This is the same thing we did for 6.0 Stable a few days earlier (making a .23 mac build).

@ybjrepnfr try to backup everything: all Vivaldi files, the whole system backup, the whole ssd image and hit that
restore default menu

ps: anyone know, pls, if this switch is now redundant?
–disable-features=UserAgentClientHint
i suspect it has been unnecessary in vivaldi for a long time, but have not been willing to remove it without confirmation.According to https://niek.github.io/chrome-features/ this has changed to
--disable-blink-features=
but both when used were blocking the API part but not the header part. Both were crashing the Vivaldi Settings if you would type anything into the searchbox, so I have that "disabled" for quite some time now... Also I didn't report the latter as a bug, maybe I should have done that..., the reason for not doing that is that seriously, constantly chasing around all that neverending Chromium tracking crap got pretty old and sickening already

testing...

omz, is that the cause of this pita? sheesh! i'm away from my "vivaldi pc" atm so can't yet test it, but... if i've understood you correctly, "simply" removing
--disable-features=UserAgentClientHint
from my current custom launcher should make v's settings' search field usable again? i had chosen not to bother mentioning this pita in the forum months ago when it began occurring to me, coz, tbh, i'm pretty tired of the constant bugs... like eg this snappie "disappearing" all my v menu content, ffs!however, if i do remove that switch from my launcher, doesn't that mean i'm allowing this gargle tracking thingie? [i know you wrote "were blocking the API part but not the header part", but i don't really understand the implications].

it does that, yes
"simply" removing
--disable-features=UserAgentClientHint
from my current custom launcher should make v's settings' search field usable again?very probable, like 99% yes

I can feel you, though I can't figure out why that is happening to you only, as mine are there untouched, and the snapshot is not crashing.

yes you allow it, but you were allowing "half of it" anyway.
You can test it here: https://user-agent-client-hints.glitch.me -
@npro thanks!
how know you this arcane stuff, oh yoda?
-
@ybjrepnfr There's no knowledge in those, just cause and effect from the constant fighting with f* Gargle's pile_of_poo . I wonder when I will drop the towel permanently.

rumour has it, allegedly, that some have tried, even several times, yet perversely somehow the masochism-magic still keeps drawing them back.
nobody
can explain it... -

make that 100% -- thanks so much!

woohoo!!!
went back through my historical backups & luckily/happily found one whose file
/home/meee/.config/vivaldi-snapshot/Default/mainmenu.json
is NOT empty like the current buggered one had become. copied this old one into my currentDefault
profile, & now am back in business:pics of my recovered menu
ofc, the unanswerable-as-usual question is... why did this snappie decide to murder my default profile's
mainmenu.json
?thank dog i had a backup.
-
@ybjrepnfr actually, now that I think of it, I should have used the phrasal verb "throw in", not "drop"
ooopsie
-
@npro it's ok... as long as you always know where your towel is, regardless of thrown or dropped, you're still a hoopy frood.

It has to do with filters and fix by @gudmundurg74
Here's the description
- Create a filter that has e.g. query "from:X" where X is some email address you have gotten mails from.
- Wait for the filter to run and observe that the filter's folder has some messages in it.
- Change the filter so that the query has a different email address (which should exclude all the messages that are already in the folder.
- Wait for the filter to run and observe that new messages are added to the folder but the previous messages, that should now be excluded, are not removed.
Expected behavior: After the filter has fully run the messages in the folder should be exactly those that match the filter, no more, no less.

Ran on Debian 11 KDE the fix for Linux codecs from https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/668180
Strange, Chrome 114 plays this DRM protected video smooth whereas Vivaldi 6.1 stutters.
6.0.2979.22 Stable without stutter! -
