@doctorg: Wait… no love for @GMG? It is ok GMG… I still ️ you!
Her loss if she doesn't use Mail and @gmg always appreciated what you and the other folks are doing constantly improving mail.

Ctrl rather than shift?
Yes. Modeling after M2, which models after Windows Explorer, the ctrl modifier means to copy (as in, copy to another label), and the shift modifier means to move (as in move to another label).
Dragging with no modifier is a move too obviously, so no shift modifier needs to be handled for a move necessarily. But, if I remember correctly, in M2 for example, when dragging a message from one account to another (and in Windows Explorer when dragging from one drive to another or at least an external drive), it would imply a copy instead of a move (to avoid the message getting removed from the source account by default) and you would hold down shift to do an explicit move to that other account instead. I didn't test if Vivaldi Mail does the same thing when dragging to another account, and this wouldn't matter for labels in Vivaldi Mail. Just mentioning it to point out that shift wouldn't normally be used for a copy and ctrl is better for that.

If you're in Received/Unread or other folder though you can drag to other folders it won't remove any labels and just add the ones you drag to.
Indeed.

@DoctorG Actually the icons work is primarily @miky and @atlemo and the other nice update here (Mail DND), is from @gmg. I am just the messenger.
Thx all!
VTony Rocks!

I love waking up to a surprise snapshot!
But didn't we already have custom buttons, like for months already?
Not that I've done much with it - I'm about as creative as a mud brickThe improvements are sure appreciated though, I imagine more creative users will do a lot with it!
From a quick test looks like you've fixed search suggestions, so that's a big improvement for me! It's back to non-aggressive suggestions, and I can press Tab or keydown to select the first one again, which was broken
As for a centered address bar by default - bleugh! - please add an option to have it back as normal. Even though we can edit the spacers out, a lot of users will hate it (like I do) and not understand they can just edit the toolbar.

@burnout426 @gmg I agree with @burnout426 that ctrl means copy and shift means move. In the context of Vivaldi Mail's approach of handling mails, I believe that without holding shift or ctrl, we need to look at it from a practical perspective depending on what is done, whether one's workflow is label or folder based:
-
Labels stack, it's natural to give an email multiple labels. So I believe that dragging an email onto a label (without holding any keys) should always add the label without removing any other. Override with shift.
-
folders are inherently an either/or thing, so in this context a move action is most intuitive when holding no keys.
--> since holding no keys while drag&dripping an email is most convenient, and since the most intuitive handling depends on personal preference, I suggest to add an option in the mail settings what the default is. Due to Vivaldi's nature as a database centric client, I think the default should be "drag&drop without keys adds target label / creates a copy in target folder". The other should be "drag&drop without keys replaces labels / moves between folders"
Opinion mine of course.

This one is always the case
... except in the edge case that you're in a labels view and drag from there to another one which I'd personally expect. Would you agree here or want that one to do the same too? -
@gmg I have now played with moving an email around a bit. I agree that it's good the way it is implemented: When dragging from a non-label view into a label, that label gets added. When dragging from a label to another label, the label is replaced. It's indeed intuitive.
I was thinking about a way to remove a label entirely using drag and drop and don't have a good idea. Instead I suggest hat you could add an x to the label indicators in the email header to allow selective removal of labels
After applying MS Paint magic:

@janrif Reboot and try again.

For all that want to get nostalgic, there are still some Opera 12 skins and button sets available here http://web.archive.org/web/20121220093815/http://my.opera.com/community/customize/skins/

@pathduck: No it was an experiment before and was not annouced. The flag was flipped when it was ready for most people to test.
please add an option to have it back as normal.
This will be their chance to learn how to edit.

That would be nice.
Also, in M2, in a label's message list, you could right-click the message (or selection of messages) and choose "remove from view" to remove that label from those messages. Vivaldi Mail has this by right-clicking, going to "Labels", moving the mouse over the label name, and clicking it to uncheck it. But, a "remove from view" option in the root of the context menu would be way nicer.
-
@gmg On side, I noticed that when right-clicking on a sent message (in any view), there's no "Labels" submenu. I dragged a sent message to a label to apply that label and was trying to figure out how to remove the label from it. Found a way using the label message toolbar button.

@burnout426
Ah, was going to fix that missing label option. Forgot about it. Hopefully I'll remember to next week.
