Vivaldi 5.7 RC 1 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 2921.45/47
-
@DoctorG I mean that bug literally came out of the blue. I thought something was wrong with the vid itself. But when trying in another browser. no its actually vivaldi XD
-
@aryandevasagayaum: Actually you should be able to reproduce in Chrome but the exact conditions might vary slightly. This is an upstream bug.

Looks like we might go into Stable with the broken video bug
It wouldn't even surprise me
-
@ourostra Switch to 720p or higher and all is ok, the video stays unskewed.
-
This doesn't concern Linux though, just Winblows.
-
@npro Your answer refers to what issue?
-
@DoctorG To the skewed low res video issue.
-
are rocker gestures broken? I can't navigate back and forth?
Win10 22H2closing and open vivaldi again "fixed" it
-
@aryandevasagayaum: Out of interest, does the switch
--disable-direct-composition-video-overlays
allow you to work around the issue?P.S. See also https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1415122 and note the google people in that bug state that they have several issues with video-overlays currently.
-
@pathduck, @ourostra @DoctorG See my comment further in the thread. Basically can you try with
--disable-direct-composition-video-overlays
. Also check out the Chromium bumps such as https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1415122 -

I hope the next version will not be released with the bug VB-94893.
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/644272
I don't expect a fix in the next (stable?) version -
@Ruarí said in Vivaldi 5.7 RC 1 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 2921.45/47:
--disable-direct-composition-video-overlays
Yes, that seems to fix it
The test case is also good:
https://cdpn.io/pen/debug/MWqgMLeThis case is bugged on Chrome/Chromium 110 as well which is good. I was struggling to find good test cases, and Vivaldi seemed to only trigger on YT videos after switching tabs, while Chrome did not, like this video (480p max):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V377v6BAbOEIt also triggers consistently on this Steam sale page but that's not going to be up forever:
https://store.steampowered.com/sale/nextfestHere's another good case which will stay up:
https://store.steampowered.com/charts/mostplayed/Man, I love seeing Chromium devs starting to break a sweat as they realise the extent of the bug
-
Sadly, the reproducible crash (VB-94834) CRASH when closing a page after downloading a video, related to AdBlock Plus is still not resolved in this build. Tested on a clean RC1 with just ABP installed. More info in the bug report.
-
@Pathduck Wondering why I wasn't affected xD
didn't touch the flag. yet.Btw, I'll take the risk of being totally skew'd. ^^
-
Still having issues with video affecting the UI and got a crash to boot.
Streamed a video in full screen, left full screen and tried to close the tab, instant crash.
UI is unresponsive for me when leaving Vivaldi's full screen mode (no UI) as well
On the bright side, the speed dial background no longer shows through on mouse overs of videos
-
Just curious, what are the new features to be featured in Vivaldi 5.7? I don't use the Snapshot versions at all.
-
Not fixed and is fine in the current stable: (VB-93838) The new default Panel width is forced back after restart
-
@Ruarí Yes, that works.
-
@treego The biggest addition seems to be upgrading the window_ panel into the window(s) panel. There's also an auto mark emails as read option for the mail client, a bunch of changes to how autocomplete is handled in the address bar, and a bump to Chromium 110.
Custom buttons and workspaces were also added, but right now they are both still hidden behind separate toggles in
vivaldi://experiments

There's a new update for the desktop Snapshot branch - please test it out and let us know how it works! Thank you!
