Solved Extensions, passwords, cookies | Restore after reinstall?
-
What if I still have access to the old OS and Vivaldi installed on this OS? Can this be helpful to restore passwords/extensions?
-
@Gregor I would recommend using Vivaldi Sync for this.
But for passwords, this is possible - you can just export your passwords to plain text and import on the new system. Just be careful and delete the exported file after use
Or you can use a tool like Chromepass from Nirsoft to decrypt the passwords from file: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/chromepass.html
For extensions, it's more complicated. You could write down all your extensions, then reinstall them I guess.
How many extensions do you have? Dozens? For me I have 8 extensions (4 disabled I rarely use) so no big deal for me to reinstall those I need. Most advanced extensions like uBlock or Tampermonkey have some way to export settings so they can be restored later. uBlock even has a feature to backup settings manually to "cloud" which I assume is using the Sync API.
I guess if you have really advanced extensions like bitcoin wallets and stuff, things get more complex.

Thanks, I restored passwords using Zalex108 tip (import/export csv file) and extensions (25) with sync (worked with folders' settings I already copied).
I only don't know how to restore cookies. Can't I just copy/paste \AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Network\Cookies file?
-
Does sync also transfer cookies?
-
@Gregor As i could check in
vivaldi://sync-internals
i answer: No. -
@Gregor Hi - honestly, forget about cookies. Log in again on your new machine, it's not that hard to do.
AFAIK no browser syncs cookies, for good technical reasons.

You can take a look if interested:

I'd like to restore all of them because there is over 800 domains (over 3000 cookies).
@Zalex108 Nothing of this export/import all cookies.
I found https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cookie-backup-and-restore/cndobhdcpmpilkebeebeecgminfhkpcj but I don't know how to create ckz file (no file is created). Can anyone test it?
-
Not on Desktop,
By the reviews it seems not working. -
I would also love to sync my cookies. Almost every website out there requires you to accept that they use cookies, and that takes time and effort to agree to every time.
Thanks

@DarkUltra Hi,
Use an AdBlock and add https://www.i-dont-care-about-cookies.eu/
Or https://github.com/Rudloff/adblock-imokwithcookiesFew scapes to them

Hi, I contacted the developer of this Cookie Backup and Restore extension
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cookie-backup-and-restore/cndobhdcpmpilkebeebeecgminfhkpcj
and reported the problem I mentioned earlier.
Now he fixed it and you can now export/import cookies between devices. I checked mine and I think it works.
Maybe it's worth adding this method (probably the only way to transfer encrypted cookies) to tutorials such as https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/51704/guide-v-backup-extra-steps -
@Gregor
Ok,
I'll check it out.Thx
