Solved Customize Start Page (Speed Dial) Background
-
Would love to be able to change the default accent color on the start page from bright red to a custom color, such as forest green or dark blue. Hope you can add this feature, thanks.
-
@zachray00 This will never be implemented, doesn’t make sense to let users switch the color of a single element. What we are waiting for is custom themes, which would theme the whole browser.
-
Since Vivaldi 4.1.2366.19 for Android it is not even possible to have a white/clear background for startpage, bookmarks or history anymore when selecting the "bright design". There is always a purple glimmer. Only the "dark design" changes the background colour completely to black. Custom image would be great.

Yes I agree
-
Now that we are able to set a theme accent colour (thank you), please could there be an option to also add it to the Start Page background as well? I use the light theme and find that the almost white background often gives a rather poor contrast with the Speed Dials - and the rest of the UI.
-
@scribeuk Mobile Vivaldi is not yet capable of selecting backgrounds. For it to do so is a non-trivial programming task and so we will see that capability when we see it.
-
@ayespy Ah OK. If it can't easily be customisable then perhaps the default could be a little darker. Maybe something neutral like a mid-grey to avoid clashing with anyone's accent colour.
-
Would also love to see this and atleas having the Option to replace the default Image with a solid color.
-
@iamansingh plz allow users use custom background images. It will make vivaldi more attractive
-
It would be great to have a feature added to the settings area so we could have a different background image available instead of just a single colored background. I have my start page setup with various speed dials so I can select a saved bookmark and go to that page quickly.
Update: Evidently nobody else sees any kind of merit in my suggestion, I just thought it might enhance the overall look of the start page.

It would be awesome I think

Hi,
Thanks so much for the positive response, I do realize that the vivaldi development team is rather a small group compared to other mainstream browsers like google chrome, etc. but with vivaldi when they do release a new setting or feature it's normally a meaningful one.

If I remember correctly, Vivaldi had backgrounds in android before. Those looked very good. It would be even better if we could choose our own. It looks a little bland now

@Slownicofish said in Customize Start Page (Speed Dial) Background:

I don't recall this ever being the case.

@Slownicofish
No, it's done in Opera and, in small amounts, in Firefox (fork Iceraven). -
By the way, there is one workaround to customize the express panel: you can use cloud-based express panels. For example, m-inftab-com and its like. Specifying this site as the homepage in the settings. Of course, in doing so, it is important to realize that you are passing some personal information (link labels at least) to the other site.
For privacy reasons, I would not use this method.
But maybe for another person, the flexibility of the settings and the ability to set a nice background will be more important than privacy. -
The vivaldi theme does not support background images and only supports single-color modification, which is very monotonous.

a. Vivaldi Android version of speed dial, if the bookmark is in the form of a folder (there are multiple bookmarks in one bookmark), then the appearance of the speed dial bookmark is a folder icon, which is not ideal in appearance. The PC version shows multiple bookmarks, which is relatively good, but due to the limitations of the Android version's screen, this doesn't seem ideal either. Since themes can only be monochromatic, it currently seems Speed Dial might be better as a single shortcut. But this will also make it very inconvenient for some friends with many bookmarks. Therefore, it may be more important to beautify the speed dial bookmarks with custom themes or labels.
b. After opening multiple bookmarks, I need to click on the menu name of the previous level to return to the previous level. For example, after opening the speed dial bookmark, there are bookmarks b, d, and c. I need to go back to the previous level bookmark but still fails. You need to click on bookmark a's menu again. This is inconvenient whether it is operated on the mobile version or PC. Why not click on a blank page to go back one level?
I originally wanted to post an explanation, although in English I still have to rely on translation. But I think management will archive the content again, even though I think it's somewhat different from the content results for related searches and doesn't match the related description. Overall, Vivaldi's progress was indeed slow. I believe that as a team we can be more innovative and developed than as an individual. -
We're nearing the end of 2023 and I was wondering if there was any movement in this area?
Vivaldi on Android is still absurdly uncustomisable, specially compared with its desktop counterpart. Being able to at the very least change the background of the Speed Dial page would help a lot...
