Bug with opening new tabs from addressbar
-
@DoctorG Confirmed in 5.5. Apparently fixed already in 5.6.
-
@Pesala Fixed? Not for me in 5.6.2839.3 and internal 5.6.2859.
-
@DoctorG Try Shift+Enter.
-
@Pesala I have no Enter key, i do not own a extra numeric keyboard with such Enter key.
//edit2: For me the key at right of keyboard is Return, at right of numeric keyboard Enter.
May be technical differen terms in countries?//edit: Ooopsie, in my Settings → Address Bar i have Alt Enter instead of Shift. I feel ashamed now.
-
@DoctorG No need to be ashamed. Vivaldi has so many options, it is hard to debug reported issues unless everyone is using a default installation. I tend to leave 5.5 alone, and only modify settings in 5.6.

I now see what you guys mean, but I didn't even know about these settings. I simply always use the Enter key without needing the Alt or Shift key and it would open my nicknamed bookmarks in a new tab. I don't like to use 2 keys for performing this.
Why it's so annoying is because I now often by mistake open websites inside a tab that I actually wanted to keep active, because I still needed to read an article for example. And I always keep my bookmarks manager open inside a tab.

I agree. Yes, that is a usability issue for some users. Should be changed/added/fixed.
Then report your issue as a new bug to Vivaldi tracker

Basically how these settings should be in Vivaldi is the following:
-
Always open website via addressbar in new tab with Enter key.
-
Always open website via addressbar in same tab with Enter key.
So this goes for all websites that are opened via the addressbar. No matter if you search for something in Google, or if you open a nicknamed bookmark, or if you search for ''non nicknamed'' bookmarks via the addressbar. However, the first option should only work this way unless you have opened a blank tab with no active website that is already running.

@RasheedHolland The request to Open a URL / Search Results in a New Tab from the Address Bar with "Enter" is already a popular feature request.
I think the point is to save resources by not opening new tabs unless they are requested because each tab runs a new Vivaldi process.

Yes but that's the thing, when opening a nicknamed bookmark, it has always already worked this way. So with the Enter key you could open a nickname in a new tab. What didn't work is when you searched for stuff via the addressbar, this will always open in the same tab. It's silly that Vivaldi, a browser with so many customization options, still hasn't added a feature that will make you configure this.

May be technical differen terms in countries?they are the same thing with 2 names
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enter_key
if anything they have a different keyboard code in the key matrix but they usually do the same thing, unless in a program there is a particularly different task for them
