Cycle Tabs with Ctrl+Tab and Arrow Keys

How about using the arrow keys to select a tab in the Tab cycler? Example: Ctrl + Tab opens the Tab cycler. Letting go of Tab key and keeping Ctrl pressed keeps the cycler window open. Arrow keys select a tab. Letting go of Ctrl focuses on the tab.

One could assign additional or alternative shortcuts to the commands to cycle tabs, but the behaviour would be unchanged, i.e. releasing the Alt key would activate the tab focused in the list.

A setting to leave the tab cycler open might work for users who opens lots of tabs.

I suggest looking at the Window Panel and the Quick Commands dialogues for easily switching between open tabs.

If this is ever to be implemented, I'd like to suggest that the tab cycler becomes full grown rather than just a line of tabs. That way we could more quickly cycle through the tabs using the up and down arrow keys too, making it faster to scroll through tabs.
With the tab cycler as it is now, I don't see much advantage in this feature request (switching between Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab already moves the focus to the next previous tab as using the Left or Right arrow keys would)

I think I was, although I hadn't it configured that way.
Nevertheless, even as a list, if you could use the arrow keys, it would only make sense to use the up and down keys in this case which would still move you through the list only as fast as Ctrl+Tab or Ctrl+Shift+Tab do.

My suggestion was to turn the tab cycler into something closer to what you have in stacks, like the next image. Then you could really benefit from being able to use the arrow keys to switch between tabs and select them much faster than Ctrl+Tab or Ctrl+Shift+Tab ever would.

@pauloaguia That soon becomes impractical for users with more than 20 tabs open. Currently, one sees a long, scrollable list, with only one large thumbnail of the currently focused tab, which will be selected when the tab cycler is closed.

An option to keep the cycler pinned open so users can scroll up and down at their leisure using the arrow keys or the scroll wheel would be quite workable however many tabs are open.

That depends on the resolution. in my laptop screen I can see 42; If I'm attached to my monitor, I can see 80. But yes, for smaller resolutions, that would be a lower number (still probably a better one than the single line or list, though).
