Solved Removing Duplicate Email
-
I have this setting for all accounts but still see duplicates in mail list. Anyone else?

@wildente said in Removing Duplicate Email:
@janrif when M2 veterans say "email view", substitute that with "email folder like received, sent, any filter or imap folder". That's what we mean. In this case: do you see duplicates in the same list of emails, or do you find mails appearing in two different places, somehow indicating that they are copies of one email
I think this may be solved. Look at <Time Sent>

@janrif I do not have this setting for any accounts. Further, Vivaldi M3 is designed to create only a single copy, ever, of any email. So this seems odd to me.

@janrif
I set this to ask but I was never asked.
If you have the trash can icon enabled in Unread you see a mail in thrash and unread but it is not a duplicate.Cheers, mib

Yes, that would be odd but I sometimes get duplicate messages from sender & that is the circumstance that I am reporting

@janrif Let's start out by clarifying this:
Your topic title, "Removing Duplicate Email"
And then your initial post in the topic, "I have this setting for all accounts..."
Do you in fact have a setting in your accounts of "Removing Duplicate Email?" Where do you see/set this setting?

Settings <CTRL>F12

@janrif Aha! This is in the Mail Settings window - not accessible from normal mail view.
SO - this would mean that any message that is sent with the exact same digital signature from the exact same sender to the exact same recipient at the exact same time as another email would not be saved in the database twice.
Do you in fact have such emails occurring more than once, or do you rather have "duplicate" emails from the same sender (sent at different times or to a different account) visible? The latter kind will not be deleted as a duplicate.

yes; time stamp identical, account identical. I will try to capture for you the next time it happens; maybe I missed a detail.

@janrif Do you see them in the same view, or in different views?

I'm not clear about your question. Do you mean in a split screen or....

@janrif A view is a single folder or list. For instance, seeing the same mail, twice, and both of them in "Received," versus seeing the same mail both in "Received" and "Trash."

@janrif Yes. Those are two separate emails.

So we have established that emails of identical sender & content & date//time qualify as identical & would be removed from "duplicate email" setting but emails of identical sender & content & different date//time would not qualify as identical, I would like to suggest that the "duplicate email" filter be adjusted to match content but not date//time sent header. Otherwise duplicate filter is moot b/c it's not possible to send duplicate emails at the exact same time & date......right??... leaving user with identical content mail content which is wasted space. If you think this has merit, maybe it should be converted to email suggestion now that programmers are more focused on mail improvements. Your thoughts? TIA

No, we have not.
To the very least, there may be different headers (which is typically not content by definition) or different receivers (which may but not necessarily has to be indicated in the headers). Also, I would probably consider MessageID to be the most important property for identifying duplicates, but this is not sufficient in the slightest as corrupted files and broken encoding are a pain.I'm very much in favour for removing duplicate messages and I use some extensions with thunderbird to do so, but I do not expect vivaldi to go through this hassle.
But if you wanted to have such an option, just go ahead and request it.
