How to downgrade version?
-
How do I downgrade? I installed an update today and it is trash.
The current version is: 5.4.2753.33
Revision = 07033003140f7b1849a7264119be045410846483I've no idea what version I was just on, but was working just fine. Now I'm lucky for the browser to load on the first try. If it loads, it will only run for a few minutes before all tabs and panes and the sidebar/titlebar/footer are replaced become a solid grey box (I have to keep copying this text in case it happens while typing). Also my sidebar links don't want to load and my bookmarks keep periodically disappearing.

Forgot to mention that when this happens I have to force quit via Task Manager "End Task"

Hi, before downgrade you can simply rename your profile folder.
It is called "Default" and is in your local app directory.
Open the Windows Explorer and paste this in the address field:%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local
There is a folder Vivaldi and in this folder is "Default".
Rename it to Default.bak, for example > Start Vivaldi.
If you use Vivaldi sync it is very easy to get all your data and most settings back.
If not:

@yeahwhatever Downgrading is never the best solution, and is likely to cause more problems than it solves.
First, try a standalone installation of the new version in its own folder. If it still crashes with a default installation, then you will know that the problem lies with something in your profile or some extension that you use.
Installing as a Standalone Version so that it does not interfere with your settings for the Stable release.
Then, see How to Reset Vivaldi.
Backup your bookmarks, search engines, and any custom thumbnails too.
Uninstall Vivaldi 5.4.2753.33 completely, and reinstall it as a regular version for All Users or the Current User. Restore your bookmarks, etc.

It seems I may have been too hasty in blaming Vivaldi for the issues. I have noted other problems with my system and suspect the issues might have been caused by a combination of Windows Update and resulting GPU driver compatibility. I have removed a problematic Windows Update and performed a clean upgrade of my AMD drivers to their latest version and my system seems stable once again, including Vivaldi.
That said, I'm going to read up on Vivaldi version control processes. I did not intend to migrate to a "snapshot" release. I simply clicked the "Update Ready" button in the title bar. I will have to find out what settings I need to change to ensure only the full version stable release channel is maintained. I will also make sure I understand best practices for backing up my profile.
I also find it a bit disturbing that updates are so irreversible that backward migration is discouraged. What is changed so drastically that would cause this to be the case? I've only used Vivaldi for a couple of months, but going back to Chrome even for just an hour or so was alarming. I am a full Vivaldi convert at this point and want to keep it that way.
