i forgot to keep this thread updated [despite thinking vaguely that i had been]

many linux people just prefer to use middle click to paste the copied text instead of scrolling
No, with respect, you've done it again, haaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Iirc @npro has already explained this to you/others several months ago. What you wrote here is a false dichotomy. It is not either/or. I have, & use, both. MMB pasting is f a n t a s t i c a l l y handy & useful, but it only occurs in a text field, ergo, if one executes the MMB-click when not in a text-field [when the python script is active], it then ipso facto initiates the autoscrolling action. Otoh, when the pointer is indeed in a text field, the paste operation occurs, AND yes it's true that the AS is also invoked BUT its design specifically includes a dead-zone. If User terminates the AS within that DZ, no AS actually occurs, otoh, if User explicitly moves her pointer outside the DZ, logically she does indeed wish to use the AS operation, thus it proceeds til later terminated by User. As i said, some muscle-memory adjustment IS needed, but so what, we also had lots to learn when first coming to Linux anyway, didn't we? After the learning, it's all lubbly jubbly!

I wish there was a simple global setting to disable it f o r e v e r !

@Stardust Hmmmm
Penguins, attack!
Not this!!

@Stardust
Let that be a lesson for you -- we are vengeful & merciless. Muhahahahaha squawk!

@Stardust Yippee
no, that's inadequate...Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thank you so much for posting this here; i never monitor the Russian subforum, so never saw that discussion.
Don't you think this is simply crazy? I do !! How many years have we wanted this, yet all along some arcane command was lying quietly awaiting us! Also, over all the years i have done online searches for a solution, that command option never arose at all. I can't believe this!
Thank you!!

@Stardust said in Middle-click Scrolling for Linux Version:
enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll
It's NOT included here, which til now was my
biblemaster reference for such commandline switches.

I am shocked too
How many years have we wanted this, yet all along some arcane command was lying quietly awaiting us!
The question is when this feature was introduced?
Also, over all the years i have done online searches for a solution, that command option never arose at all. I can't believe this!
They were hiding it from us!!!

@guigirl and I don't see such an option in
vivaldi://flags
I want to modify this setting within Vivaldi, instead of creating a custom shortcut with this option
enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll
Also maybe we should let Vivaldi team know about this, so they could include it in the Settings?
-
@Stardust Fine ... but i am happy for now [or forever?] just to get by with this;
firejail --blacklist=/Seagate -- /opt/vivaldi-snapshot/vivaldi-snapshot --disk-cache-dir=/tmp/vivaldi-snapshot-cache --force-device-scale-factor=1 --debug-packed-apps --disable-features=UserAgentClientHint --ozone-platform-hint=auto --enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll

@Stardust I realised later that i had not shown the up-to-date launcher, so i've just edited my post to correct it.
So coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool, innit?
-
I created a bug report to include this option into Vivaldi Settings or Vivaldi flags - VB-90618

@guigirl Actually it is, you just had to dig deeper
the MMB autoscroll "feature" exists for quite some time, it just didn't work for Linux, nice that if finally works
.
Chrome "features" are separately listed here: https://niek.github.io/chrome-features/
/edit: wrong section

So, from your source [new info for me]:
--enable-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll
vs my recently altered launcher [extract]:
--enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll
I am drafting this via Snappie atm, so after posting i shall relaunch V using "your" way rather than "my new" way, to test your bold claim...

It does NOT work.
We still need to use this recently-revealed new way:
--enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll

@guigirl oh wait, you are right I marked the wrong section
, I'm gonna edit it
But indeed please do try
