What are your preferred extensions and settings for Vivaldi?
-
I just switched from Chrome to Edge and then to Vivaldi for my chromium browser of choice.
One confusion I have in particular is regarding privacy extensions. Whereas in Chrome I used uBlock, Disconnect, Privacy Badger, Decentraleyes and HTTPS Everywhere, Vivaldi seems to have adblocking built into it. So which extensions are redundant on this browser?
Feel free to share any other useful extensions that you use!

@Streptococcus Why both Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin? Isn't that redundant?
-
@Eggcorn
Privacy Badger does not block ads. -
@Streptococcus It does block trackers, and most ads are trackers. uBlock Origin blocks both ads and trackers.
-
@Eggcorn , but also block fingerprinting, something that uBO not do, but I thinks that Trace is a better company to uBO, because it don't block ads and trackers, but all other sniffing tecnics.
-
@Catweazle That reminds me: I've been meaning to ask you about Trace. I tried it out. But I couldn't quite figure out how to use it, or what it's blocking.Edit: Nevermind, I got Trace mixed up with another extension.
Edit 2: Did you also recommend an extension called "Site Bleacher"? Because that was the one I couldn't figgure out.
-
@Eggcorn , yes , SiteBleacher is one of my favorites, I only store data from sites I visit regulary, like this Forum, all other "I never had visited", no service workers, cookies and other trash, nothing remains.
-
@Catweazle Sounds nice, I'll take a better look at it. What's the difference between that and Trace?
-
@Eggcorn , SiteBleacher isn't an ad or trackerblocker, it simply delete the data when you leave the site
Trace can protect against:
- Canvas Fingerprint Spoofing
- Audio Fingerprinting Protection
- WebGL Fingerprinting Protection
- JS Crypto Currency Mining Domain Blocking
- WebRTC IP Leakage Protection
- WebRTC Device Enumeration Protection
- Client Rects Protection
- User-Agent Spoofing
- Network Information API Spoofing
- Browser Plugin Fingerprinting Protection
- Hardware Fingerprinting Protection
- Beacon/'Ping' Request Blocking
- Blocks Malicious Top Level Domains
- Hyperlink Auditing Prevention
- HTTP Referrer Headers Controls
- Google Header Tracking Controls
- E-Tag Tracking Mitigation
- Screen Resolution Spoofing
- Battery API Spoofing
- Removal of specific Tracking Cookies
- Removal of URL Tracking Parameters

Only three that I use regularly:
-
Well, other extensions, not related to privacy and blocking
IMtranslator (The best multi engine translator extension in the store)
DarkReader (I use Dark mode in flags, but DarkReader improve the function, because permits to adjust the inversion in pages where the Dark mode flags dont work well)
Extension control (permits to switch the extension on/off in a small pop up)
Lunapic (Powerfull image editor, which permits to edit and share an image in the context menu)
Reverse Image Search (Multi engine image search from the context menu)
Allow Right Click (Re-enable the possibility to use the context menu, copy, paste, and text selection on sites that prevent them) -

Thanks for the reminder about this one. Completely forgot about it. It is a super easy one to use and does come in handy.

I use regularly these extensions:
- Adguard VPN
- Download Master (needs to install the desktop app)
- Language Tool
- Vivaldi Forum Mod

Reverse Image Search (Multi engine image search from the context menu)
Image search is now built in Vivaldi. I use it with imgops as a gateway to all image search engines, among other useful image operations.
