Thank you so much!
I kind of have get it started now, and have another question, or actually two
Is it possible to make new blog posts on different sub pages, or can I only do such on the Home page?Is it possible to have another url to the blog, and if so what is the easiest way to do that?
-
@hundstina Hi (Tjena!) - nice blog, looks great
I suggest you look into using Categories, it's the most common way to split posts into different topics:
https://wordpress.com/support/posts/categories/I also see you've already learned how to use Pages:
https://wordpress.com/support/pages/Is it possible to have another url to the blog, and if so what is the easiest way to do that?
At the moment the Vivaldi community blogs do not seem to support domain hosting. I guess if you already own a domain it might be possible to tell your registrar to make a simple DNS redirect, depending on what features they offer.

Hello @hundstina
Welcome to the Vivaldi community. It's always good news to see a new face around here, I hope it's not the last post you make.
The blog is one of the things that caught my attention the first time I used Vivaldi, knowing that I could have my own blog without the need to develop it or pay third parties moved me, however, it is something that not many know, so we will take care to mention it more often.
I see you have already created your forum. As you will see, it is slightly limited to the full potential that you could use with Wordpress due to the Vivaldi integration that is developed by us, however, there are help pages that will be able to teach you everything you need to know.

@realmat0s
Thank you so much! I tried to learn WP once, but found it way to complicated and hard to grasp. So I gave up tryingSo I don't mind at all if the Vivaldi blog tool is a little less complicated
-
@pathduck Thank you so much! I will check your link suggestions next time I have have enough time to laborate with my blog. It is a little "periodical" for the moment

Where do i start my blog??
Ooh, i saw an apposite TEDtalk that got directly to the heart of this important question.

All Vivaldi blogs have the URL
username.vivaldi.net
. If it's just the username part you want to change, then, in theory, you can register a second account and create a blog with it. Once the second blog is set up you can add your main account as an editor or even an admin on the new blog. The phone verification requirement can be an obstacle, though, as one phone number can only be linked to one account. -
@jane-n Thank you for the suggestion. Worth to think about.

Hello again! I'm back trying to figure this blogging out
I got a tip above to make my main topics (maybe will be 4 or 5) as categories rather than pages. But I can't find out how/where I create categories in the blog.
The tip gave a link to a Wordpress site for more information, but I don't have any Wordpress account so it is not available to me.Can somebody please tell me how I create some categories into my blog? I'd most greatful!
-
@hundstina Hi again, good you're back
First thing I want to say is that for the links to the Wordpress site, they are just help files, and you do not need an account on
wordpress.com
to read them. Just don't click on Log In - your blog is onvivaldi.net
, rememberHere are the Help pages from
wordpress.org
which may be more relevant to the setup at Vivaldi:
https://wordpress.org/support/article/posts-categories-screen/
https://wordpress.org/support/article/pages/
Unfortunately, it seems that Vivaldi Blogs has removed some of the features for Pages, such as having subpagesFor the categories, you can find and manage these from your
vivaldi.net
Wordpress blog dashboard, under the Posts menu:If you hover over the categories table you can edit or delete them:
When you create a new post, on the right-hand side you can select what categories it should belong to. A post can belong to several categories at once:
I also recommend you to change the language used for the Wordpress Dashboard, makes it easier to understand. You can do this under Settings > General:

Thank you so much! I will try to follow your tip one day really soon.
Actually, when I clicked the Wordpress-link I came to a login page and wasn't able to get somewhere else. -
Two short questions now
When I've created some cathegories, will they appear one the startpage even if there are no posts in them?
Or will they appear first when there is something categorised there? Is it possible to cathegorize also the old posts?
Thank you so uch for helping me settle in!

@hundstina Hi
Did you read the links I posted about Wordpress categories? Most is explained there.
There's also tons of information on the web about WP, a quick Google search found me:
https://www.wpbeginner.com/glossary/category/
https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/use-categories/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w5Yckcu8zoI see you've already created some categories:
https://hundstina.vivaldi.net/category/geo/When I've created some cathegories, will they appear one the startpage even if there are no posts in them?
No, categories belong to posts, but you can add a widget to the sidebar if your theme supports it, or add them to the menus. Example, look at my sidebar and top menu here:
https://pathduck.vivaldi.netThemes and Widgets are of course a separate thing to learn about, but again there's tons of information on the web
Is it possible to cathegorize also the old posts?
Of course - go to your All Posts view, and choose Quick Edit on a post, the categories are there to be selected.

I just want people to be able to chose, from the home page, the category they want to read
How do I add a certain category to a certain meny that already exist?PS. I try to read the WP instructions but I think I'm too stupid
-

You can edit your menus in
Appearance > Menus
You can add categories/pages/posts and even custom links to a menu. Not all themes support menus, but in your case you have a top menu already that you've edited so do the same again
Here's a good guide in Swedish too, if all these English docs are hard to understand:

Thanks alot!!

I'm back again ๏ธ
Developing slowly but surely .
This time I have a simple question, I think.I made a new post from my Android today. Before, I have only used my laptop.
But I can't figure out how to show a comment box on this post (as in the post before, same category). Have tried different options with no result. On the screen option section there is no information about the tick boxes alternatives... So I'm not sure if a "tick" means show, or hide But I've tried both.
So, why can't I get a comment box to show up here??
Anyone who knows?
https://hundstina.vivaldi.net/category/mattens/ -
@hundstina That's easy : it's a category
Comments are only on posts and pages.
