Not again, Microsoft!

@legobuilder26 If someone voluntarily chooses to use Edge, IMO they've already demonstrated by action an indifference to corporate morality & user privacy. Having crossed that Rubicon by choice, all bets are off & they should not be surprised by any subsequent abuses.

If someone voluntarily chooses to use MS Windows
fixed.
Also M$ Windows is a proprietary software and M$ is NOT (and has never been ) a monopoly according to court decisions, so all that whining and complaining is ridiculous and hypocritical to me. Yes, they 'll do whatever they think it's better for their interests and they don't owe you anything, so suck it down like a good boy , or move along.
P.S. Daniel Alexandersen used to work for Chropera, then he quit or was laid-off and moved to Mozilla iirc.

@luetage Hi I want to try out Linux, but when I tried to download it directly from the site. A message popped up saying that this "Software was dangerous" and do not download. Are the security features good? I found it interesting that I would get a popup informing me that the download could harm my computer. I am really getting annoyed with "Windows" and wanted to check out some other alternatives.
-
@ja27cs2g Popups saying downloads could be dangerous generally have nothing whatever to do with the actual safety of the software. It's usually just Windows or Google warning you against software that they, themselves, don't make any money off of, or which does not increase their customer base. They warn you the software may not be "safe," but what they really mean is that they personally didn't provide it or approve of it. No linux download is inherently dangerous. It's true, you can get yourself into trouble by trying to onboard a new OS, but that's down to user sophistication, not a defect in the software.

@ayespy Thank you so very much, I kinda felt that this was the deal, but was not sure, I don't want to destroy my computer, I am just curious about what all the hype is about using Linux.

Windows will warn you about all .exe downloads which isn't a bad practice. -

sudo pacman -Rns windoze && sudo pacman -Sy linuxloveliness

@guigirl If you wanna play pacman, Iโd advise you to visit one of the dozens of sites on the web, offering some version of the game. The Vivaldi Forum is definitely not a place to randomly start eating fruit and chasing ghosts

pretty much sounds like microsoft is turning it's operating system into a chromebook style os..My mother has a chromebook and it is a totally locked down google only pc...Bizarrely the chromebook is just gentoo linux with chrome installed to all intents and purposes and the same thing can be cooked up on any old laptop and for free..
Microsft must share the same mantra as google...microsoft os must use a microsoft browser.
Linux distros give you so much more freedom than this and i am so glad i dumped windows many many years ago.

Microsoft has just blocked EdgeDeflector, a workaround for forcing urls from search, widgets, settings, etc, to not open in Edge. The fact that it doesn't respect the default browser is stupid in and of itself, but blocking EdgeDeflector is a whole new level.
I have an older security camera which can only be accessed remotely with an Internet Explorer add-in (very irritating as it's therefore impossible to view on a phone). I am already fighting to keep away all the stupid notifications to use Edge instead of IE so it sounds like this is going to get even worse!
Thanks Microsoft!

Thanks Microsoft!
I wonder if any user, anywhere at all on the rock, has ever uttered those words in a non-ironic, actually-sincere manner. I'd give it HoG odds against.

No problems here with Edge and Bing, WPD helps.
The good thing about Windows is that it is the OS with the largest number of FOSS of all, among them also some who will remove the bad habits in front of the user. I can recommend some of them, that make Windows in a fast and obedient little lamb, which are safe to use (you can undo the changes, if something does not have the desired result)
F.Exmpl., apart from WPD

@pesala Seems Microsoft want to become a bank like Opera with its payment service.

Using FOSS and be proud about in a closed proprietary OS that also costs $ to get does not make any sense at all.
/added: especially when we are talking about M$ here with their history full of filth.

@npro Some phrase-coining.
M$ is to trust as fish are to bicycles
M$ is to trust as gargle is to !=evil
M$ is to trust as farcebuck is to decency
