Events in calendar sync on Android but don't show up on the Webmail or Vivaldi Calendar
-
Hi! First of all, I'm very grateful for all the features and work Vivaldi has been doing. The whole project is more and more incredibly useful as time passes by.
My issue is that when I add events on the Etar calendar (synced with Davx5), they show up in my calendar on the phone, but not on the webmail or the calendar in Vivaldi. I assume the Android davx5 configuration is proprely set up since a) I followed these steps, and b) when redoing the whole davx5 setup with above rules by setting up another davx5 account for the same vivaldi account but with another name (I hope that didn't sound too confusing), the events previously added to the calendar showed up in the davx5 account, hinting they were uploaded and synced.
Hence, it seems like whatever I upload from my Android phone is synced, but it doesn't show up either in Vivaldi Calendar (the browser) nor in the Webmail Calendar.
Also, and I may have to make another topic for this, in Calendar settings from the webmail, when I enable the Birthday Calendar, it doesn't show up anywhere (Webmail, Vivaldi calendar, nor Android). I wonder if there's a bug, a misconfiguration or if this feature is not really implemented.
Thank you very much.
Edit: grammar

@olohal What are you using as your calendar server?
-
-
@olohal What confuses me is that you are adding events to an Etar calendar, is that one of your calendars on the Vivaldi calendar server (webmail)?
-
@luetage I set up the Vivaldi Webmail's calendar inside Etar. Etar is a calendar client for android. I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying.
-
@olohal Alright, it’s a client. I’m honestly not sure what prerequisites are needed to sync a new calendar to the server. The Vivaldi client can do it, but I have never worked with Etar. Does it work when you create the calendar on the webmail server, sync this new calendar to Etar and then add events from there? You can obviously create the calendar in the Vivaldi browser too (as part of the existing vivaldi.net calendar account).

When I add events from the webmail to the default calendar, they show up on my phone as well (but the events from my phone don't show up in the webmail, as I mentioned before).
If I create a calendar in the webmail, it doesn't show up on my android phone (nor its events, of course).
There's another interesting detail. Before I set up the davx5 account again yesterday, I had changed the name of the default calendar in the webmail. The new davx5 account had the new name of the calendar, but the old account had the old name of the calendar, even after 'refreshing' (syncing) the davx5 account. So, it seems some things are synced while others are not.
To recount: events from the webmail are synced to android, but not the other way around. New calendars in the webmail are not shown on android.
When I say android, I mean Etar calendar and Davx5

@olohal If you create a calendar on Vivaldi (client or webmail), it will only show up on your phone if you enable it in the davx5 application. Should it be enabled there and still not sync, you got some other issue, but I wouldn’t know what it is, sorry.
-
Ah! If I go specifically to the calendar inside the davx5 accountand press referesh calendar, now the new calendar shows up.
Nevertheless, the events from my phone are still not appearing in my webmail calendar nor in Vivaldi, which is my biggest issue.

@olohal
Hi, are there any reasons for you to need davx5?
I try to setup it but failed, now I use OneCalendar with CalDAV and it was very simple.
Choose CalDAV, add your Vivaldi credentials > ready.
May be Etar can do, too.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin I use Etar for all of my calendars because a) it's open source, and b) it came with my OS, so I rather not have 2 calendars.
Hopefully @davx5 has an answer to my problems

If you pull down the CalDAV screen in DAVx5 it will refresh the list of available calendars of Vivaldi. Did you set it up according to our guide here?
https://www.davx5.com/tested-with/vivaldi
We've collected these details with another Vivaldi user who has no problems. You should however not use the Vivaldi webmail calendar. There are some issues with recurring events and exceptions that are open and unresolved for years. Please use the Vivaldi desktop apps instead which seem to work nicely together with CalDAV and thus DAVx⁵.

@davx5 said in Events in calendar sync on Android but don't show up on the Webmail or Vivaldi Calendar:
Apart from being a happy DAVx5 user, I think that page you linked needs a minor update:
