Solved Keyboard shortcut to close tab stack
-
A recent release gave us "auto" tab stacking (with Settings > Tabs > New Tab Position > As Tab Stack with Related Tab) which I've been trying out to tidy up my tab bar, keeping tabs from being mixed amongst each other. What I'm missing is a keyboard shortcut to close the entire tab stack. I'm used to using a quick Ctrl+F4 to close a tab that I want to get rid of, but with tab stacks I have to right-click it and choose Close Tab Stack when I'd really rather a quick Ctrl+Shift+F4 (for example) to close that cluster of tabs from a site that I was using to look something up.

//EDIT: You can assign a keyboard shortcut to the Close Tab Stack command already.

Good suggestion!
It would be good to have it as a general command in addition t a keyboard shortcut that way it can be used from quick commands or a mouse gesture as a user prefers.
-
I would love this as well. In fact I scoured Vivaldi for it and was surprised it didn't exist

Please, give me this!
-
@MisterSanders There are commands for Select Previous Tab, and Select Next Tab.
In a Tab Stack they will select the entire stack. Then use Ctrl+F4 or whatever to close the selected tabs.
-
Devs please add keyboard shortcuts for
- Stack Tabs by Host
- Close Tab Stack

Upvoted. I was just looking for a "Close Tab Stack" shortcut and couldn't find it.
Since it's mainly a mouse-related action, I was thinking it would be nice to hold a modifier key (option/alt, command, control) while clicking the tab stack rather than an actual keyboard shortcut. That way, you wouldn't have to navigate away from the current tab stack you're on to select the tab stack you want to close with a shortcut key. (A mouse gesture might be nice, but I don't think they're currently supported for tab actions.)
I'm currently using command+left click to open a link in a new background tab, so I'd need to use a different modifier key for closing the tab stack.

Yes! Yes!!! Desperately need this.
In settings I select "open links in group". And made groups double-leveled. That
s VERY COOL option. Because every top-level tab is a single a thread, so when there
s no such an issue anymore - I easyly close whole group. But I need to right click on the group and choose somewhere at the very bottom "close whole group" option.I am sure that default settings of the browser should be as I described it, and one more option: to close whole group, when you close top-level tab. That should be by default as well.
And People will learn that there could be an order in their tab sections.
Amen.

I also think it's lacking something to fasten the closing of all a stack of tabs in one action

This works very nicely, thank you. I created the command chain without the delay and assigned
CTRL+SHIFT+W
to it. -
Thanks, this works well. I didn't guess that Close Tab selected the entire tab stack when in any single tab in a tab stack.
-
This does the trick, @pafflick! Thanks for taking the time to look back and post this new solution.

@pafflick
Hello,If this should be a new post, please let me know and I will be happy to make it. I think the context of this thread is appropriate to keep in mind, but not necessarily relevant to the troubleshooting of my issue since others are having success with this solution.
I tried this method, which I see is working for others, but it does not seem to trigger anything for me. I can see the hotkey is previously assigned to "Window Panel" for both
Ctrl+Shift+W
andCtrl+Alt+W
, so I first tookCtrl+Shift+W
for this purpose, since it makes the most sense whenCtrl+W
will close a single tab. Now, neither when pressing the "Test Chain" button, nor when pressing
Ctrl+Shift+W
, does anything happen. I have just upgraded to version 5.0.2497.38 on the stable channel to acquire this feature. Here is a picture of the command chain configuration.I thought it must be my fault, since I am an advanced user, so I checked my demark. "Surely Vivaldi is working fine, and something else is grabbing my
Ctrl+Shift+W
before Vivaldi sees it, such as AHK." So, I test to see thatCtrl+Alt+W
macro works fine, and it does, the web panel pops up, and I pressCtrl+Alt+W
again, and the web panel disappears. So, I once again clearCtrl+Alt+W
from the Web Panel and assign it to theClose Tab Stack
command chain, but now the hotkey and/or command chain still does not function. I have also tried raising the Delay to 1000 ms, and deleting it entirely, but these configurations also had no result. Can you provide any additional information about what may help me troubleshoot this?

when pressing the "Test Chain" button
That should've resulted in closing the current tab when the following option is checked (and the tab itself is not pinned):
Open Settings in a TabIf it's configured like this and still doesn't work, try the basic troubleshooting.

Thanks for getting back with me.
I haven't changed anything but figured I'd test today before reporting in, and it works! I assume something in the background changed with an application and/or system reboot. I should have tried "turning it off and on again" before reporting in.
Thanks again for your solution!

@pafflick Thank you for this. Looks like you are the king of command chains
I created the command chain and updated the menu. Works like charm.

@smerugu28 How did you "update the menu"? How can I put own items / reorder items in the right click menu? Thanks.
