Open a link outside Vivaldi not opening if a browser window is not open
-
With the update to v5, Vivaldi does not open an external link unless I have a browser window already open. For instance, if no browser window is open and I click on a link in an email, Vivaldi will open a new blank window, not open the link. If, however, I already have a Vivaldi window open, it will open the link in a new tab. Same if I have a web location saved to my desktop. Everything worked as is should prior to v5. I saw something similar discussed way back in February in the Windows forum ... but no resolution.

VB-85202 macOS: Opening url not working if no window open

I am seeing this behavior as well. I am running Monterey on an Intel Mac. Which version on macOS are you on?
-
Seeing the same (for me it is the start page that I get, but I guess that's depending on what you have set in preferences) since updating to v5 and have to admit that it is really disrupting my workflow. I've searched the settings for a new flag which might cause this behaviour, but didn't find anything.
It would be really great if someone could help here as always (remembering to) keeping a window open is a bit cumbersome.
I'm on Monterey on an Intel MacBook Pro.

Same here on El Capitan... I get the Start Page; obviously not the expected behavior! Never noticed it before; but I seldom close Vivaldi except for testing.
-
Same problem, Monterey on M1 MBP.

I'm still running 10.14, but don't think has anything to do with the OS version. This behavior started immediately after upgrading from Vivaldi v4 to v5. And, it is very frustrating as I often save "temporary" web locations to my desktop rather than bookmark the URL. Frustrating enough to make me want to stop using Vivaldi until it behaves as it used to.

I've tried email links and system url's (Web Site Location file) ... Same result: If there's no browser window open (i.e., application Vivaldi is not running), the Start Page appears in a new window -- rather than the page referenced.
Has a bug report been filed yet?

I filed a bug report yesterday and referenced this thread.

I'm seeing the same problem, and I guess every Mac user does. I opened a discussion on that same issue in this forum three days ago. Thanks for filing a bug report. Unfortunately the bug tracker apparently is not publicly available, so we cannot see any responses.

same issue here on MacOS Catalina. Very annoying having to click twice for opening any external link...
-
Exactly the same on latest version of Big Sur - appeared after update of Vivaldi to v5.

I deleted my workaround, as it only worked a few times and then stopped working. Sorry to confuse anyone. Problem persists.

Same behaviour here on Mac OS 10.13.6, High Sierra.
-
Same on MacBook Pro 16 with Monterey 12.0.1.
I submitted bug report today and referenced this forum topic.

Confirmed. Really annoying, I switched back to Safari.

This is a problem that was introduced with the major Vivaldi 5 update (not a point update), Mac Catalina. If the Vivaldi app is running in the background but has no windows open, and I click a link from another application (or open a local .html file, etc.) then Vivaldi becomes frontmost but only with a blank window (as though I hit command-N); the link I clicked doesn't load.
If Vivaldi 5 already has a window (empty or not, doesn't matter), then clicking a link from another app works fine. -
