Has there been any progress on having new tab wallpapers refresh with the desktop wallpaper? Alternatively, is the API for setting the new tab wallpaper exposed? Could it be exposed if not? This way I could write an extension to do it myself.
Unfortunately you’d [most likely*] have to change the C/++ part of V, coz the UI part only asks to open the file picker or load the wallpaper. I’ve been getting around this (with a custom but changing picture, not with the wallpaper, but it should be similar) by going to the settings, checking that the custom image is the new one there (if not, closing & reopening the settings), choosing a different background and then again the custom image.
* Given that the workaround works, it’s possible that with correct timing &c you could automate this (getting an unwanted background for a moment). Maybe, just maybe, the wallpaper could reload instantly (if the JS explicitly asks to load it).

New Snapshot/stable: Vivaldi 4.2 RC 1 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 2406.30/13

@pesala: Okay, I surrender. I believed you & @Ruari about needing to use an RSS feed to be notified of updates without auto-updating. Then, today, this happened:
https://www.wpcoe.com/images/vivaldi-update-ready.jpg (Not sure how to embed an image, so this link was the best I could do...) -
@wpcoe Did you disable in Settings, Updates, Show Update Settings:
Automatically Download and Install Updates -
@pesala: Yes. And after doing that and prior to getting the above notification yesterday, two or three Vivaldi snapshots were uploaded & installed in the background with no notification, hence my original post on this thread.
-
@pesala: And, now, yet another (new?) way Vivaldi advises me of updates:
- Not a System Tray icon,
- Not an item on the address bar line,
- Not an RSS feed,
but a banner at the bottom of any vivaldi.com web page:
-
...and just to make sure there's absolutely now way for me to be confused, if I go to Vivaldi > Help > Check for updates... it tells me " .40 is currently the newest version available" when at the bottom of the window I'm prompted to download .44. LOL!

@wpcoe The latest Stable build is newer than the latest Snapshot build. If you are using the Snapshot build, then 4.2.2406.40 is the latest Snapshot version, but 4.2.2406.44 is the latest Stable version.
Install the Snapshot as a Standalone Version so that it does not interfere with your settings for the Stable release.
