Names for Windows

This would be a brilliant feature for all the reasons mentioned so far.
What a shame that 2 years on there's no progress with having this implemented.

News from Chrome Canary:
"Google is adding the ability for users to name Chrome windows for easier window management and switching. The latest Chrome Canary builds now let users right-click on the title bar or on individual windows in the taskbar and choose to name the windows. The feature is not hidden behind any flags and should be available to all Chrome Canary users running the recent builds.
The feature is a nifty addition for those that separate tabs in different windows based on the contents of the tabs or to segregate between work and personal pages. Generally, browser windows with multiple tabs display the name of the currently open tab and a count of the number of other tabs, which can get confusing.
The renamed windows make it easier to ascertain which window to switch to and can be constantly tweaked depending on the requirements. This, in addition to the other tab management features recently added to Chrome, greatly improve multi-tasking and tab management on the browser, especially for power users that spend a lot of time on the web.
While the feature is already live for Windows users on Canary builds, a Chromium entry from June suggests that the feature has also been in the works for macOS for a few months now. Therefore, users should also begin seeing the feature on Apple’s desktop OS. Considering that it is just beginning to show up in the Canary builds, it could be a while before the feature makes it to the stable channel."

This would be a great addition. Maybe combined with the feature request of Naming of Sessions.
@mauritskorse said in Session Management: Name of Session Somewhere Prominently on Browser:
Yep, I would like this very much as well. I usually try to have 3 windows/sessions open (work, hobbies and temp/in-between things). But stuff get's cluttered pretty quickly as visually there's no difference.
I'd love to see some features to improve the sessions:
- naming/renaming sessions
- showing session name
- different theme per session
- auto saving sessions [^1]
- when starting vivaldi give the option to choose which session(s) you want to open [^2]
^1. After opening vivaldi, I always open the different windows from last time from the 'closed tabs' to make sure the I do not lose them. If I forgot and restart Vivaldi I have lost them all.
^2. Ideally, just open a empty window and on the Start page there is (next to the bookmarks) an overview of last sessions that can be opened. -
This would be a hugely useful feature for me as well. I usually have a window open for each project I'm researching, plus tabs for general purpose research, and not being able to title them is almost a dealbreaker. Given the whole schtick of Vivaldi is customizability it's a little sad this doesn't exist yet. It's available on Chrome/Chromium/New Edge, and there's an extension available to enable it on Firefox, which I've been using for ages.

I actually duplicated this in another topic. I figured someone already beat me to it. I would really like this as I do thematic research and have 6 different windows with a dozen or less tabs in each. Far too often, I have to exercise cognitive skills to identify which window I need to go to.
Window names would be a great productivity boost.

For those interested, there is a Chrome Extension in beta called, appropriately, Window Namer and Restorer. I am testing it out and it appears to do exactly what this topic requests. A couple of observations:
- It's in beta: Caveat emptor
- The names have a maximum length of 8 characters
- Window names are viewable when you Alt-Tab (or the Finder equivalent) to display all windows on the desktop and when you do a Move Tab. If you are in a window you must click on the extension to see the name of that window.
- Window restore is said to display the window name as well but I haven't tested this out
- The Window name does not appear for some pages such as Chrome-specific tabs (such as chrome://history/ etc)
I have been using it for a short while and it is a godsend.

Do we know something new about development of this feature? Its already more than 4 months since Chromium revealed this and literally any reaction from Vivaldi. I really don't understand.

This post is deleted! -
I'd also like this feature.
I use WindowManager to set windows sizes and positions. For apps that have multiple windows under the same class, the only way to have different settings for each window is to have persistent and unique window names for each of them.
For now I'm using Window Title Changer, but it'd be much better to have it natively on the app.

+1, this would be very useful. Are there any updates on this? Is it being developed?
-
+1
Also would it be possible to restore windows in the virtual desktop they where in when closed? -
Yep, 4.1 is released with accordion tabs!! But still no response on this feature.
-
+1 I'd love to see this feature! In particular, I'd like to see the window name appear in the "Move tab" context menu. Right now, windows in that menu are named based on their active tab title and it takes significant effort for me to figure out which is which.

Maybe I don't understand what you said.
A = D:\Vivaldi\vivaldi.exe
B = D:\2Vivaidi\2vivaldi.exe←RenameA : class name = Chrome_WidgetWin_1
B : class name = Chrome_WidgetWin_1
A: exe name =vivaldi .exe
B: exe name =2vivaldiexe -
Should this be tagged Windows? It's about Vivaldi for desktop in general, because "Windows OS" (in various versions since the 1980s) isn't the same as windows used on many Operating systems since the 1970s ...
@Pesala ?

Currently it's my top required feature in Vivaldi.
There's another equally important missing feature - multirow tabs, but I can achieve it using mods.
So it's really what is really missing in Vivaldi.@shifte said in Names for Windows:

- You couldn't yeasily move tabs from one window to another. Instead you have to copy and paste urls.
- You should remember to reopen all instances of the browser.
- To rename windows you still have to use a 3rd party applications.
-
As @barbudo2005 mentioned, Chrome has this already - hope it comes to Vivaldi too.
-
Since Vivaldi prides itself on its flexible tabs implementation, I was a bit shocked that this feature didn't already exist. This feature request is now almost 4 years old. Firefox has had nameable windows for as long as I can remember, Edge has them, Brave has them, and Chrome has them.
As far as I'm aware, Vivaldi is the only commonly used browser I've tried that doesn't have this feature.
For what it's worth, this for me is a show stopper, so I'm ending my trial of Vivaldi as a result. It's a shame, because many people I know are frustrated and looking for a browser to move to/settle on. I certainly wouldn't recommend Vivaldi at this point.

Damn I discovered this very useful feature on Edge which seems to be part of Chromium sourcecode for like half a year. How come it is not available in Vivaldi?
Is there a flag to enable?
