Can't open Settings since Update to 4.0
-
I can't open the Settings in Vivaldi since i updated to version 4.0 today.
When i click the Settings in the menu nothing happens.
Same with the keyboard-shortcut (Ctrl+F12).Does anybody else have this problem?
-
I can confirm this happening, it seems to be an issue with settings that are opened in a separate window. Going to vivaldi://settings and enabling settings in tab proves it.
-
I had a similar problem after upgrading to 4.0. After clicking on the left option (basic) the whole panel disappeared with no way to get to settings.
I had to delete my profile folder and reinstall Vivaldi.In fact I made a mistake selecting basic instead of full loaded Vivaldi, because I only read the first line about tracking. And I have my extensions to block tracking and ads.
I suggest to avoid that popup window for all who have Vivaldi already installed. Or focus only on the parts that were experimental so far.
-
It's happened to me too, opening settings in a separate window doesn't work, it's only possible by visiting vivaldi://settings or opening it as a list.
-
@kbertrand I'm having the same issue since updating to 4.0.
-
My problem disappeared after reinstalling Vivaldi Stable.
I also had an issue opening the preferences on my secondary monitor in Vivaldi Snapshot. That problem has since disappeared after upgrading to the latest Snapshot.
There is probably still a bug somewhere, but it is hard to find.

@gwen-dragon Yes, I have 3 monitors
-
@gwen-dragon
hey, sorry for late answerYes Dual/Tripple Monitor.
But the settings pane doesn't show on one of them.
Neither its behind an opened window. (Alt-Tab doesn't show it)vivaldi://settings works.

@gwen-dragon
I use dual monitors. I'm having the same problem. In version 4.0 I can't open settings, from the side panel, not from the Vivaldi menu button, nor by pressing Ctrl+F12.
-
It's all that, and worse.
- The searchbox has returned on the right of the URL, even after I had got rid of it because it was cluttering up everything.
- The URL bar is now so narrow that I can't read it all without scrolling. Worse, when I start typing, say 'Vivaldi' to launch the Vivaldi Forum, the panel is so narrow that all the entries look the same.
- When I display all the extension icons to the right of the URL+SearchBar, the arrow on the far right disappears, so I can't contract the list of Extension again unless I enlarge the Vivaldi windows to the cull screen.
So the whole tab and icon system at the top has gone haywire. I will now go back from today's V4.0.2312.24 to V3.8 until things are fixed . . .
--- Oh no! V3.8 has been removed from the Vivaldi website! ---
That was not a nice thing to do! Anyway, I have found it from Filehorse.

@montiverdi Going back to an older version is not recommended. If your installation is broken, do a complete uninstall and reinstall. That fixed the problem of settings not opening for me. Visibility of Extensions can be changed in Settings, Address Bar. The Search field can be disabled or reduced to a button in Settings, Search.

@montiverdi ... and save the page as a bookmark... I hope you won't have the same problem (Windows) as I do (Mac) when you try to reinstall a previous version. Maybe Gwen-Dragon does not recommend to do so, but I haven't been able to do otherwise if I wanted to keep on using Vivaldi. Desperately looking forward to updating to a stable / runable version for Mac OS 10.11 (4.0 claims to work, but it doesn't)

@gwen-dragon Ok, I am aware. Just sharing my experience and trying to help out. I don't like downgrades, either. The worst of all is that if I am not able to update reasonably soon, I will need to change the browser after having recommended it to several people...
-
@gwen-dragon I have only one monitor and it's happening to me. The only way I can get to settings is vivaldi://settings.
-
@kbertrand same here - 4.0 sucks
-
@longhorn80 Check for updates. One released today should fix this issue. Two updates in four days is pretty responsive, especially as today is Sunday.
-
I've now installed Vivaldi.4.0.2312.27.x64.exe, and all is good again with all the issues reported in the tabs and display at the top of the screen, including Settings. Thank you.
See how much we have come to rely on Vivaldi, and what unreasonable panic sets in when things go wrong!
