How to add a webcal ??? (new user)
-
Hi, as part of my drive to de-googlize, I have setup & am using Vivaldi Calenders. My problem is that I am trying to import a webcal of the fixtures of my local rugby team from caltrics.com. I have created a calendar in Vivaldi called Rugby & am trying to import events using the link that caltrics provides, I click start import but nothing happens, & no events display, am I missing something ???
-
@markcooper not having an account there, we'd have to guess. Maybe you can provide an example calendar link for us to test with. Until then, try playing with the account types, probably starting with the web calendar.
-
@markcooper You can import calendars in
.ics
format in the webcalendar (https://webmail.vivaldi.net/). Locally imported webcalendar links in your Vivaldi browser instance will not sync. -
Heres the links copied from caltrics website, they tell you to use the 1st link in your calendar app. It works easily in google calendars but the aim is to try not to use Google if possible. Ive been trying the webcal import with no result.
Your calendar connection link is:
webcal://c.caltrics.com/8dc08d40-79f5-4eaf-bed8-83656c1e7bb8Your connection link secured with a username and password is:
webcal://c.caltrics.com/[email protected] -
@Markcooper I tried, even added my own account on caltrics, and am also not able to make it work in Vivaldi.
@luetage no idea how to access that .ics file through Vivaldi Webmail, the import expects a local .ics file to upload.

Well thank you for trying,,, it's not a deal breaker, just annoying. Will probably get sorted soon.The quest to lose Google dependency goes on.

@markcooper , maybe this list can help in de-googlize you

Also this one with common soft and apps

@wildente Yes, online webcalendars can’t be integrated in Vivaldi webcalendar and as far as I know can’t be synced with a Vivaldi calendar server setup.

@luetage said in How to add a webcal ??? (new user):
Yes, online webcalendars can’t be integrated in Vivaldi webcalendar
Well, it's still an experimental feature, so I hope the sentence ends with "... yet"
-
@luetage Really?
I did it few time ago, testing with different services/platforms that provide calendars including CalDAV.
As the WebCalendar is online always is updated, only WebCalendar settings (URL) is sync.
-
@markcooper You can add that webcalendar to any of your Vivaldi installations. It should work. But it won’t sync to the Vivaldi servers and you won’t be able to sync it to Android. Webcalendars are in a way their own calendar servers and have to be added to Android separately.
It would be perfect if we were able to add webcalendars to Vivaldi calendar server and it synced to all our calendars fed by the Vivaldi calendar server.

@markcooper Thanks for your report. I created account on caltrics.com and confirmed the error.
Should be fixed now. I don't have info when it will be released in snapshot version though.The URL from caltrics.com should look something like this: webcal://c.caltrics.com/some-random-guid
Replace webcal with https. like: https://c.caltrics.com/some-random-guid
Using that URL and account type "Web Calendar" this should work.Regards Gudmundur Arnar

@arnar Hello, I am happy I found this thread.
I am trying to do the same thing with a calendar from iCloud. The "publicly shared" version is also a webcal protocol. I did try the same advice given to the person using Caltrics, but it did not work for me.
In the case of Apple, they provide a url that looks like this:
webcal://p102-caldav.icloud.com/published/2/[very long obfuscated string]
When I use webcal:// protocol, I get an immediate "Failed to fetch". I did try changing it to https://, and also tried removing the "p102" server header but the error is "could not locate calendar".
I understand that this is not really a request to "sync with Vivaldi" since the webcal is canonical, but it helps to be able to view within Vivaldi.
Thank you kindly for any advice you can give.

@raineer
Replacing webcal:// with https:// should work.
Just tested it on my machine.You can also try pasting the URL into the address field (with https) and see if ical file is downloaded.
-
@arnar I still have to manually replace webcal for https
could Vivaldi do this automatically? Should I fill a bug report about it?
-
@felagund Thanks.
This has already been fixed. Expect to see it soon in snapshot build. -
