Solved Restore old animation of moving tabs (tab sliding)

Well, I'm going to add to all the disappointment in here.
I find moving tabs a real pain now... almost impossible to make it what I want it to do and it is a very basic function.
I love all the customization of Vivaldi (long time user as a main browser here) but it's the first time I see it impact a basic feature of the browser. I am on the verge of giving up on Vivaldi just for this simple thing, argh...
I don't use tab stacking and I disabled it, I see now improvement in the rearranging of the tabs by doing so.

@raoulgatepin One upside is that people pointed out that there's a way to do it with the keyboard (the default shortcut doesn't make much sense, since Ctrl-Shift with the left and right arrows are available and begging to be used for left and right movement, but they went with up and down arrows instead for some reason, though you can change them). That doesn't help at all with the stacking situation, but you don't use that.

@rseiler It's cool that there is a keyboard shortcut, but honestly I just want to be able to do it without even thinking about it with my mouse... like with any other browser.
A workaround is not really OK for such a basic function, IMO or course.

@rseiler There is no shortcut for Previous/Next Tab (Recent). The shortcuts for Previous/Next Tab (by Order) are Ctrl+PageUp/PageDown, which are easier to execute than Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right.

@Pesala @rseiler for me the main problem remains that it is now very clunky to move tabs with the mouse, no matter what the keyboard shortcuts are.

@raoulgatepin I must be special. It took me all of five minutes to get used to the new animation method. It works like a dream with or without tab stacking enabled. All of those wasted hours playing Pinball, Darts, and Minesweeper, have paid off.

There were many complaints about the old method, so the team worked hard to improve it, introducing the drop delay slider to help some users. That is now no longer needed.

I appreciate that not everyone spends nearly as much time using their computer as I do, and many users have touch pads and other input devices, not a standard desktop keyboard and optical mouse, but I think you will soon get used to it.

Further improvements may come later. Maybe they will get rid of the dotted lines, but I think they help to show where the tab will be dropped.

@Pesala Well, I personally can't get used to it, I don't even fully understand that new way of moving tabs. It's a shame b/c it might make me switch browser and there are so many Vivaldi features that I like...
But hey, if most people like it, all good then!

Well, complaints related to the tab stacking I guess. Because everyone love smooth animation.
I guess we should have complimented Vivaldi devs more for how great the previous smooth tab dragging animation was back then. Better late than never.

If the old system was so good, why did so many users complain about it being difficult to move and stack tabs? If they received only a few complaints, why did the developers spend so much effort on the two-level tab stacking and tab dragging?

Just read some of the threads from 2018.

I have been here nearly every day since the first Technical Preview, and have seen people complain about many things. You're not alone, @Gwen-Dragon doesn't like it either, and she spends all day using Vivaldi like us.

I am sure that the Vivaldi Team want to please everyone, but that is impossible. What should they do? Scrap all of the improvements they have made on this, or move on while trying to address any remaining issues when they have time?

@Pesala I guess you have decided that there is no problem then. I am, too, a bit disappointed, coming from a Vivaldi Ambassador on this forum, to see the remarkes in this thread handled this way. It is what it is, we'll take it or leave then and I'll personally leave it at that since any other comment I could add seems pretty pointless.
To all the other people on this conversation : no you are not crazy, moving tabs is now quite horrible, I feel you!

@KaosAD They do intend on doing that, based on the comment from a mod in the thread for the first service release for 3.7. The question is when and how.

That is what the thread title suggests doing.

Every time you encounter a problem with Vivaldi, you run back to another browser. It is the serial complainers that make the atmosphere of the community toxic, not those who are fans of Vivaldi and try to help users work around issues while the developers continue to work to improve things for all.

That proves my point. You are unwilling to work around issues, so you will never be content. Instead, you try to pin the blame for your discontent on me or the developers.

There will always be issues. There are dozens that annoy me and many more that I would love to see fixed, but the benefits of Vivaldi far outweigh the disadvantages, so I am Brave enough to stick with it.

Pointing out an issue that one is having is very different than complaining all the time.
I always mention Vivaldi anytime I can, relay the updates on twitter, made people switch to it...etc... so please stop being so unpleasant without knowing who you are talking to.

Let's close this forum then, what's the use if we can't mention some issues we are having ?
Personally, I do it thinking it could help improve this browser, not to complain for the sake of it.

That dotted line is a placeholder to show where the tab will be dropped. It should appear whenever the tab has been dragged to the correct place to move it and not stack it or drag it out to a new window.

On some themes it is more visible than others. If you disable tab stacking the dotted outline will always be on one side of a tab or the other as soon as you start dragging.

I've understood that, but from time to time the dotted tab freezes and it is impossible to drag a normal tab to its place and at the same time the dotted tab does not disappear even if you stop trying to drag anything. It seems to be a bug.

I assume that the new animation may not always work as it should. Perhapse it works properly on your PC, that's why you say you like it. In my case it is terrible, I don't know how one can get used to it, it's very irritating.

Anyway, it would be good if there is the possibility to switch either to new or old way of tabs dragging depending on what a user likes more.

I don't see that as a viable route to take. The old code has presumably been replaced with new code. What they should do is fix any bugs in the new code and improve the animation if they can.

Yes, it seems to work properly on my PC on the Stable release. I still have the old 3.7 Snapshot as my default, so I am not comparing with the behaviour of that, though that also works as expected for me. The OP reported regarding the Stable version of Vivaldi 3.7.

Yeah no, let's not play, this update made moving tabs feel like we're back in 2008 or something. I thought it was a bug too because of how ugly and annoying it is. Luckily i prefer to use key shortcuts whenever i can to move tabs around so i'm not going to bother trying to go back to older versions just for this.
