Solved Restore old animation of moving tabs (tab sliding)
-
Hi,
After upgrade to 3.7, moving tabs around shows like this:
And I find it pretty annoying. I preferred the old way where the whole tab movement was animated as I was dragging and dropping it into different position on the tab bar, not just its borders. Is there any way to restore the old behaviour?
Thanks

This method of dragging tabs has been implemented with Vivaldi 5.2 update.

Another vote for the previous non-distracting, smooth and cool tab dragging implementation!

Considering Vivaldi emphasises user choice I'm quite disappointed in this new update in more than a couple ways.
I can only hope it gets sorted out sooner rather than later. -
I dislike the new way of dragging tab
-
I also vote for restoring the animation, the new one looks terrible and feels terrible
-
I'm mostly confident that they'll be able to do this given that we can disable multiple tab rows, which is even more of a radical shift.
-
Absolutely horrible UI change, it gets super confusing when the "Allow stacking by Drag and Drop" option is activated. Please revert this change or at least give us an option switch between the two styles, thank you.

I, too, find this update rather frustrating and quite distracting. It went from second nature to a sudden chore, disrupting workflow. I hate how the tab so easily just yanks out of the bar and floats around with a box that is hard to actually tell where it will slap itself when doing it quickly, and most of the time it tends to make stacks when I don't want it to. I really hope there will eventually be an update to at least give the option for the previous way. I like to stack tabs, but not every time I want to resort them; disabling stacking to kind of poorly get around this design choice for now is very inconvenient. So, to make tab sorting not as much of a mess due to the update, I have to completely remove the ability to stack (while doing so doesn't even help that much)? Lame.

NO WAY!?
Are you ladies and gentlemens saying to me that this new terrible way of moving tabs are... official and not a disgracefull bug????Oh, no... no no no no and NO! I totally disapprove this new method too!! Are the Vivaldi devs kidding with us???
Roll back the previous way of moving tabs and Kill the new one with fire P L E A S E !

@protofik The new one looks bad and isn't useful. Who even thought it's a good one to implement? Please bring back the old animation.

yeah it's absolutely horrible, first time they really dissapointed me with an update, hope they change it back soon!

From the latest Minor Update :
@ruarí said:
@rseiler: No because we cannot go back to the old code since changes were needed to make two line drag and drop work correctly. We will keep moving forward and try and address issues with the new code so that those who are still unhappy with it, will be in the future but the changes would be too big and risky to introduce in a minor update.
So I guess we're stuck with this for now. I switched from Firefox because of the UI customization, I am not sure how I feel about them imposing weird UI changes like this one. Because of the bug about tabs being unable to be rearranged in private/guest mode and the "Allow stacking by Drag and Drop" functionality I thought I was going crazy at first.

I don't think it's all that terrible. After updating to 3.7 today it took me less than a minute to get used to the new design. Different, but not necessarily worse. When dragging to a stack, or to create a stack, it seems quicker and more precise.
-
Not at all to me and maybe most, but I did find one thing to make it easier: disable "Allow Stacking by Drag and Drop," assuming you rarely stack that way (there are better ways of doing it).
With that gone, half of the awkwardness in rearranging tabs is gone. You still have the comicalness of being able to drag a tab anywhere (up, down, all around), of course.

Vivaldi is all about personalization and loads of settings. Why wouldn't they just let us choose when they add things like this? This is somthing users should decide. Someone like move tabs harder, someone like move tabs smoother. The border does not bother me but I miss the smooth animation, I could navigate better with that.

It never ceases to amaze me that most users react emotionally instead of rationally.
It took me about five minutes to get used to the new method of dragging tabs around. In two-level mode it is now easy to remove tabs from stacks, to stack tabs, to move stacks around, to move tabs around, to drag them out to a new window, or into another window.
It should work smoothly and predictably, which it does. It is many times better than the previous system.
Only one thing needs fixing, and that is
stacking tabs when dragging from right to left. If one drags tabs from right to left, then they can be stacked easily.Edit: Tab-stacking is fine, but something should be done about the lack of any animation when moving tabs.

Well, maybe there are some improvements with dragging tabs when you use stacks or several windows. I don't know, I don't use tab stacking.

I don't think so. Tabs reordering within the one tab bar was better imo.

Yo said this, mister. But unfotrunately your words are not for all the users here. I lost one of my favourite ways of moving tabs, but ok, I WON the new one. The devs can't change this. RIGHT!
I could clap for the GENIUS devs now for that new "feature", but i'm very busy choosing another browser for now until this mess of the recent "update" who knows a day rolls back. BUT! congratulations anyway!! You WON your productivity. Mr Jhon could WON that too! BRAVO!Vivaldi still growing!!
Or... maybe not.

It is not any better than the previous one and it is not working smoothly.

@protofik god yes, this new animation is so terrible and counter intuitive. I'm honestly considering going back to Brave or Firefox, this sucks!
