Web panel stealing focus while typing in main window
-
This has been happening to be since a recent update. I run tweetdeck in a web panel, and halfway through tying a URL, I'll all of a sudden be halfway through composing a tweet.
-
Yeah, this is the most annoying bug in Vivaldi, it is sad it is still there :-(.
-
Latest snapshot fixed "[Panels] Periodic reload steals focus (VB-76536)". Is it related?
-
@felagund
Most likely it is about the same bug.
It is - for me - solved now.
Try it out.
However, web panels cause that in new Vivaldi window the focus is not immediately in the address bar. -
Hard to tell, it was not happening for me always, but I hope so. I guess this can be marked as fixed @Gwen-Dragon, if it reoccurs, I would immediately come back:-).
-
@thangcuoi You can replicate it like this: have a downloads panel with active download in sidebar. Then switch to some webpanel you also have in a sidebar and the bug starts happening.
This happens also if you have Hangouts as webpanel and you get a new message notification. It will also steal focus.
I already reported a bug right now, it's VB-77386. -
@Gwen-Dragon Oh, I missed the rest of the thread when I replied a second ago.
So, can you tell when will it be fixed in the stable release? -
@Gwen-Dragon It's probably a duplicate of VB-37747, I meant when will the fixes from snapshot you mentioned before be available in stable release? Because it's probably related and I don't want to install a snapshot.
-
@tw9 It's up to you of course. I find the latest snapshot the best and it has more fixed issues than the stable.

You can see here https://vivaldi.com/cs/download/archive/ it usually takes less than two months to issue a new version so I would expect a new stable version in two or at most three weeks but bear David Hume in mind:-).
-
@felagund Thank you for your answer, I'll wait for two weeks then
-
Something similar is still happening. If you use F9 to direct the focus to the webpage (as opposed to using mouse click), you get the focus for around 1 second, then it's back to the web panel. Happens for example with messenger but with other panels as well, e.g. google translate.
To reproduce, do not use mouse and try to redirect the focus from active webpanel to the main page.
-
@gahaalt Would you fill a bug please?
-
@gahaalt Here there are no problems with F9, neither in Windows 10 nor in Linux Mint 20.1, both latest stable Vivaldi.
-
Aaaand in 4.1.2369.11 it's back...
Come on, I thought it'd be fixed and stay fixed, how is it possible that it's reintroduced? -
@tw9 Yes I can confirm it. This bug reappears in newest Vivaldi.
Sad.I informed the bug-team about it and mentioned the 3 different bug-reports that are spoken of here: VB-65872, VB-77386, VB-37747
EDIT: I had to write a new bug-report: VB-81902
-
Yes, I confirm it has happened to me to in the latest version. I think it is less frequent so far, but not sure.
-
annoying bug, but I thought, it's one of my extensions which causes the steal (so I'm a little bit happy, that the behaviour is a bug)
If you close the panel with F4, you can write further in the textform -
@derday Could it be that this bug only occurs sometimes?
Yesterday the bug was there, today not.
(Compared with the same tabs / panels).PS: I'm running latest stable 4.1.2369.18
-
@dancer18
I'm running "latest" snapshot and yes, now I can write in this form without problems although autoreload is activated for one panel (same panel as last hour, when I wrote the post above with problems)
perhaps the bug occurs only, if in the moment of the reload of the panel your typing in a form?
